Become a course rep and get your voice heard. If you want to make a positive difference on your course and represent your peers, then this could be a great role for you.

Become an SU course rep

Course reps are a vital part of the student voice. Through gathering feedback from your peers, sitting in key meetings and by lobbying or campaigning for positive change, you can make a real difference to the academic experience of those on your course.

About the Students' Union

Your Students’ Union (SU) is at the heart of student life.

They are an independent, student-led organisation that represents your needs, protects your rights and, when it comes to making important decisions that affect you, makes sure your voice is heard. And as a University of Nottingham student, you’re already a valued and celebrated member of the SU.

From its home in the Portland Building, the SU works hard to make sure your university experience is the best it can be, from the day you arrive to the day you graduate. They’re here to make sure that you can experience a huge range of social, cultural, sporting and recreational activities, make changes by standing up for what you believe in, and find support when you need a helping hand.

Societies – get involved, have fun

You can join any of the SU’s diverse and vibrant societies. With over 200 societies and other student-run groups and services you can pursue your current passion or hobby, find a society or organisation specific to your degree… or try something new? You might even want to start your own society.

Classoc

We are the university’s Classics Society, aka Classoc! Membership isn’t limited to students from the Classics and Archaeology department, we welcome anyone and everyone interested in the ancient world.

We run a variety of events, both online and in person, where you can meet others with similar interests, including movie nights, pub quizzes, talks and more!

Find updates about upcoming events and introductions to committee members here on the SU site and on our Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter so give us a follow!

ArchSoc

Archaeology Society is a gold STARS rated Student’s Union affiliated society, for all things archaeology related! It is a course-based society, and the majority of our members do study archaeology, but we have members from all areas of the department as well as outside of it. It’s an excellent way to meet people with a common interest, as well as getting peer support with any aspects of your course or university life you may be finding difficult.

We have close links to the department and local archaeology companies. We have an annual career’s month, with talks from graduates and companies, as well as essay workshops, and trips parallel with teaching to help you make the most of your studies. In past years, we’ve visited York, Creswell Crags, and Nottingham Castle, and have more exciting trips and events planned for this year.

We also run social events, including club nights and coffee meet-ups, to help you feel at home in the Department of Classics and Archaeology and give you the opportunity to get to know your course mates better.
