Studying for an MSc will be both challenging and rewarding. We appreciate that students who come to study with us for a master’s degree will come from a variety of backgrounds and areas of expertise. To help you prepare for your MSc, we have listed suggested pre-course reading materials for each of the MSc’s that we offer.

MSc Financial and Computational Mathematics

The recommended reading list (including some easily accessible material), as well as a bank of practice problems, are given in this document:

If you are considering studying Statistical Machine Learning (MATH4069), then we recommend reading Chapter 2 of The Elements of Statistical Learning by Hastie, Tibshirani and Friedman to give you an idea of what you will be learning.

Note that to be eligible to take the statistical machine learning module, you must have a solid grasp of the basics of statistics and calculus. The module convenor will check this for each student at the start of the module.

MSc Gravity, Particles and Fields
