How to apply

Whatever course you are applying for, it is important to make a note of any deadlines and submit your application in plenty of time.

You will need to have applied for and received an offer to study with us before you can apply for:

In most cases, international students can apply for courses right up until the summer. However, applications for some courses – such as Medicine – close earlier than this.

How to apply

Foundation courses

If you do not have the required entry qualifications for your chosen Bachelors course, the University offers a number of foundation courses.

Undergraduate (bachelors) degrees

Like all other UK universities, we ask students to apply for undergraduate courses through the University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).

You can make your application online via the UCAS website. Your school, an agent, or your local British Council can help you with the UCAS application process.

The UCAS website has a useful video guide for international and EU students.

The UCAS code for The University of Nottingham is N84.

When you receive offers, it is essential that you respond to your offers before the deadline provided by UCAS, or your offers will automatically be declined.

Masters degrees

All postgraduate students are encouraged to apply online using our online Applicants' Portal. This allows you to attach supporting documents to your application form.

Once you have chosen your course, you should create a portal account and follow the on-screen steps to complete your application form. You can then check the status of your application by logging on to the portal.

Research degrees

If you are applying for a PhD programme, you may need to submit a research proposal with your application. The proposal helps an academic school or department establish whether it has the expertise to support your proposed area of PhD study. It will also be used in assessing the overall quality of your application. Most (but not all) schools will require a research proposal.

You can make a formal application using the online application system. You will need to create an account and follow the on-screen guidance to complete and submit your application.

English language requirements

English requirements for students taking an IELTS test are listed for each course in our online prospectuses. We also accept a variety of other English language tests and qualifications. Find out more about our English language policies, including alternative qualifications and equivalencies, in our minimum English language entry requirements webpages.

Students who require extra support to meet the English language requirements for their academic course can attend a presessional course at the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) to prepare for their future studies. Students who pass at the required level can progress directly to their academic programme without needing to retake IELTS. Please visit the CELE webpages or download the CELE brochurePDF format for more information.
