Top tips for planning your journey

  • If you're applying for a visa, don't make any firm travel arrangements until you have received it.
This includes booking your flight. Unexpected visa delays could force you to change your travel plans.
  • Look at different options for your journey.
Coaches (long distance buses) are usually chepaer than trains but take longer and don't include buffet facilities.
  • Buy your ticket online in advance (as early as possible) to save money.
But note that these advance tickets are usually non-refundable and you may need to to travel at a fixed time.
  • Some routes may involve changing trains or coaches during the journey.
Check the details of any changes when you book your tickets.
  • Book your train or coach ticket for the full journey from the airport to Nottingham.
This is cheaper than buying separate tickets for each stage of your journey.
  • Ticket costs vary depending on the day and time of travel, as well as the time of booking.
The prices quoted on the page are estimated prices for advance ticket bookings, provided for guidance only.

On the day of travel

  • If you're arriving in the UK, make sure you have any documents you may need for entry.
See our guidance on entering the UK.
  • Make sure you have your train or coach ticket (or e-ticket) and journey details handy.
Staff will need to check your ticket. You may also need to refer to details of any changes you need to make.
  • If you haven't booked an advance ticket, you must buy a ticket at the ticket office before boarding.
Most trains and coaches don't sell tickets on board and you could receive a fine if you don't have a valid ticket.
  • Plan your full journey including your arrival on campus.
Check our campus maps and local travel connections so you know what to do when you arrive in Nottingham.

Getting to our campuses

If your coach or train arrives in Nottingham city centre, you can easily get to University Park, the Queen's Medical Centre or Jubilee Campus by taxi or on the city's buses and trams.

Taxis can usually be found outside Nottingham Station and in Wheeler Gate near Old Market Square. You can also book a taxi from local taxi companies including Trent Cars, Cab-Line Taxis, DG Cars and Nottingham Cars. A journey from Nottingham city centre to University Park Campus should cost around £10.

For travel to Sutton Bonington Campus, we recommend travelling to either East Midlands Airport, East Midlands Parkway or Loughborough, and using local bus or taxi connections to the campus. Skylink Buses from East Midlands airport run to Sutton Bonington village but you will need another bus or taxi to reach the campus. There is also a free hopper bus for students and staff between University Park and Sutton Bonington Campus.
