Alternative qualifications

We recognise that applicants have a wealth of different experiences and follow a variety of pathways into higher education.

Consequently we treat all applicants with alternative qualifications (besides A-levels and the International Baccalaureate) on an individual basis, and we gladly accept students with a whole range of less conventional qualifications including:

• Access to HE Diploma with a minimum of 15 Level 3 grades credits at Distinction and 18 at Merit and 12 at Pass
• Level 3 qualification to include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Health & Social Care
• RQF Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma at  DMM 
• RQF Level 3 BTEC National Diploma at  DM plus 1 A Level at C
• RQF Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at M plus A Levels at BC or D plus A Levels at  CC 
• National Foundation Dip: Sport & Exercise /Health & Social Care: D+CC or M+BC
• RQF Level 3 National Extended Certificate at Merit plus 2 A Levels at BC
• Level 3 qualification to include one of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Health & Social Care or Sport.

Contextual offers

This course is suitable for:

• students whose personal circumstances may have restricted achievement at school or college
  
• students who have studied subjects which do not allow direct entry to a degree programme
• students whose predicted grades are below those needed for direct entry to a degree programme
• mature students choosing to return to higher education

Foundation progression options

The foundation course is excellent preparation for:

• BSc Midwifery
• BSc Nursing (Adult/Child/Mental Health)
• BSc Physiotherapy
• BSc Sport Rehabilitation
• BSc Health Promotion and Public Health

After successfully completing your foundation year to the required level, you can apply for the above courses at the University of Nottingham. Progression is subject to a successful application to the BSc course - this process includes an interview for all courses except sport rehabilitation. 

There are a limited number of places available to progress on to midwifery and physiotherapy.

This course is open to HEU applicants only who will be expected to have:A minimum of Maths and English GCSE at level 4 or aboveBCC at A level (or equivalent)Contextualised admissions will be implemented when required

Please note, we are not expecting any NHS work experience to have taken place or be ongoing after March 2020 due to the Covid-19. Your application for 2024 entry will not be negatively affected if you’ve been unable to complete any NHS work experience you had planned.
