Climate Crisis talks series

The University of Nottingham Students' Union are hosting a series of weekly Climate Crisis talks, in the style of ‘TED Talks’, with climate activist and ex MP Alan Simpson. They begin in parallel with COP27 on Tuesday 8 November and run until 13 December 2022.

As global leaders attend COP27 talks, few have any idea of how to tackle the twin crises of cascading ‘wild weather’ events and the larger existential threats of climate breakdown that could easily follow. This series of ‘TED talks’ outlines the new thinking needed to avert the worst outcomes and the re-founding of meaningful democracies that must come with it.

Alan Simpson describes himself as ‘a recovering politician’. An MP for 18 years, he then worked as a consultant to Friends of the Earth and was Advisor on Sustainable Economics to the Shadow Chancellor, John McDonnell MP. He would still like to save humanity from itself.

Alan will lead each session with a 15 to 20 minutes talk on concrete examples of possible local actions. There will then be time to reflect and discuss what we can do at the university, in schools and in our local communities.

Come along and be part of the solution, Now is the time for radical change!

These talks are FREE and open to all.
