University exceeds energy and carbon emissions targets

Year-on-year the University of Nottingham has reduced carbon dioxide emissions on campus, with a total reduction of 40% since 2009, exceeding the target set in 2010 by almost 2,000 tonnes. How did we achieve this? And what targets will we need to set for the future to ensure we build on this success?

The University has seen significant reductions in energy and water use throughout 2019/2020 compared to the previous year. Read the full energy annual report.
In 2019/20 the University's scope 1 and 2 carbon dioxide emissions have reduced by 10% or 4,386 tonnes from 2018/19. Read the full annual carbon report.

Christmas food waste

The Christmas break has come early this year, and whilst your time spent on campus may be less than usual, there are still you can do to help the University to reduce costs and carbon emissions over the holidays.

University ranked 3rd in word for sustainability

The University of Nottingham has been ranked 3rd in the world in a list of the most sustainable universities. The UI Green Metric Rankings look at six indicators: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation and education.  Since first taking part in 2010, Nottingham has consistently been placed in the top four. Over 900 universities from 84 countries took part in the 2020 rankings.

Carbon Neutral advent calendar

Carbon Neutral Nottingham have a sustainable advent calendar. Each day (1–24 Dec) partners in the city shares ideas, tips and tricks to inspire Nottingham citizens to have a more environmentally friendly festive period. You may spot some familiar faces too.
