Turning waste into resources

Reducing carbon emissions

UoN diverts 99% of our waste from landfill. Enva is the University’s waste contractor and deals with around 3,000 tonnes of our waste per year. Read how and why they are turning our waste back into useful resources, such as fuel and pet bedding.
We previously announced that over the last decade, the University's CO2 emissions from UK operations have reduced by 40%. But how exactly did we achieve this? What have we invested in? And what will we need to focus on to reach net-zero CO2 emissions in the future?

The 'slow violence' that affects millions

A new UoN research base in Italy will focus on technological innovation in green aviation. It will strengthen alliances with aerospace industries and position Nottingham as a leader in low-emission, sustainable air travel research.

Slow violence is harm that plays out over years or decades and can be embedded in pollution and environmental catastrophes. UoN geographer Thom Davies studies 'toxic geographies', where such harm is clear to see.
