Sustainable Nottingham
March Newsletter

Welcome to the March edition of Sustainable Nottingham. Following the launch of our new campaign
Go! during Sustainability Action Week, we will be redesigning and revamping this newsletter over the coming month.

We’re excited for you to join us on this journey and we need you all to pioneer sustainability at Nottingham. Share the amazing things you’re doing and help us inspire everyone across the University to invest in tackling climate change together. Tell us and we’ll show your work here.

This month we’d love you to get involved by signing up to Green Rewards, and you can find out more about that below.

So let's go!

Sustainability Action Week

Sustainability Action Week 2021 ran from 1-7 March. It was a week full of online events and activities to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage positive action.

If you missed anything, read a round up here.

Be sustainable, get rewarded with Green Rewards

We want to make it easy (and rewarding!) for all staff and students to take positive environmental actions. On 2 March we launched Green Rewards. This desktop and mobile app rewards you for the sustainable stuff you do every day. You’ll earn Green Points and the chance to win vouchers for yourself and charity donations for your team.

Since launch, more than 2,800 sustainable actions have been completed by the staff and students who have signed up. And that equates to nearly 3,000kg of
CO2 emissions avoided.

If everyone at the University used Green Rewards, our combined actions could save over 423 tonnes of
COper month!

World Water Day
22 March 2021

Each year, World Water Day highlights the importance of water research and to mark the day, the Trent Building will be lit up in blue. This year the focus is on what water means to people and how we can better protect this vital resource.

Water researchers at Nottingham are committed to discovering and delivering solutions that address complex industrial, environmental and societal challenges associated with the management of water processes. Blogs and articles will be published on the day to highlight some of these research projects.

The Blue-Green approach to urban water management

On International Women's Day (8 March) we featured a guest blog from Emily O'Donnell to highlight how UoN women are leading the way to a more sustainable future.

Emily O’Donnell is a Research Fellow in Urban Flood Resilience. Emily’s research addresses strategies needed to enable cities to achieve flood resilience and water security that are sustainable, reliable and enduring. In this blog, Emily outlines her work on the role blue-green infrastructure can play as part of transformative change in urban flood risk and water management.
