The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) opened in September 2000 to become the first branch campus of a British university in Malaysia and one of the first in the world. A friendly atmosphere, world-class teaching and extensive facilities make it a popular choice for Malaysian and international students, as well as exchange students from Nottingham; students represent around 70 different nationalities. All teaching is in English and the campus forms a full and integral part of The University of Nottingham.
A world-class campus in Malaysia
In 2005, UNMC moved to a purpose-built site 22 miles south of Kuala Lumpur, and in 2010, we celebrated 10 years of UNMC. The campus has been modelled on University Park Campus in Nottingham and is a self-contained, self-sufficient village overlooking scenic green hills.
The campus is led by senior academic staff who are seconded from Nottingham and ensure that the standard of teaching is of the same high quality as its UK campuses. Programmes at the Malaysia Campus are not differentiated from those offered at the Nottingham campuses, and students are awarded degree certificates from The University of Nottingham.
Student life
Whether you’re based in Malaysia for the duration of your degree or you spend time there as part of a campus exchange, you will benefit from a wide range of facilities on a 125-acre site. These include state-of-the-art laboratories, 24-hour computer access and an extensive library. There are also convenience stores, a creche and a health centre.
The Students' Association has an indoor and outdoor food court, as well as social and learning hubs to relax around campus. There are also opportunities to get involved in clubs, societies and a range of student activities. You will also find a Student Services Centre which provides support on matters such as accommodation, campus services, finance and support services.
Malaysian life
Malaysia is a pluralist culture based on a vibrant and interesting fusion of Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous communities. English is widely spoken and the Malaysian Constitution guarantees freedom of worship. Transport is available from UNMC to the nearest bus and rail stations, providing easy access to Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding area. KL, as it is almost universally known, is now the commercial hub of Malaysia and is an attractive city with awe-inspiring architecture, modern hotels, financial centres and shopping complexes. In the city centre, there are many old colonial buildings, a vibrant Chinatown with street vendors and night markets, and a bustling Little India.
Accommodation
Residential accommodation is available both on and off campus.
