Dame Elizabeth Fradd DBE became Vice-President of Council in January 2012. She joined Council in 2009 and is a member of Audit & Risk Committee, Nominations Committee and Remuneration Committee. She is an independent health service adviser. The focus of her work and abiding passion is the continuous improvement of health care. She was until April 2004 the Nurse Director and lead Director for the Review and Inspection programme in the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI). Prior to this appointment she was Assistant Chief Nurse in the Department of Health. Her current portfolio of work includes commissioned governance reviews, Board development and mentoring of senior personnel.
She is a registered sick children's nurse, registered general nurse, midwife and health visitor. She has published widely and spoken on many occasions at both national and international conferences. She is an ambassador for "Together for Short Lives", Vice-President of Rainbows Children's Hospice, an advisor to the African Prisons Project and Chair of Magdala Opera Trust.
Elizabeth has honorary doctorates from Wolverhampton, Nottingham and Birmingham City University, and holds honorary professorships at two universities. In 2004 she was made a Fellow of the RCN, which complements her honorary fellowships of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, the Queens Nursing Institute and honorary membership of the faculty of Public Health.
She was until July 2011 a member of the National Information Governance Board for Health and Social Care, the Summary Care Record Advisory Group and until September 2014 a member of the national "Children and Young People's Health Outcomes Forum". She was also until June 2015 the Chair of the national Health Visiting Taskforce and is still a member of the Law and Ethics in Finance Project Group. Since September 2015 Liz has been an adviser to Health Education England for their national programme of work on the "Shape of Care".
