Dr Gaby Neher joined Council as one of the Senate members in 2013. Appointed in 1997, Assistant Professor in Renaissance Art History and serving as Director of Teaching and Senior Tutor for the Department of History of Art. Gaby prides herself on her teaching record and holds three Dearing Awards, a Staff Oscar, a Chancellor Award and is one of the '100 Heroes' selected by the University of Nottingham Students' Union. Externally, she has been recognised as a National Teaching Fellow by the Higher Education Academy in 2015.
Gaby's research focuses on Early Modern elites, gender and material culture, looking in particular at Renaissance Venice and Tudor England. She looks at how elites present themselves and how they use art in all its forms, from clothing to food to houses, to create an image for themselves. Locally this means research interests in Wollaton Hall, and Thoresby House and Estate and the work of its resident lady and artist, Marie-Louise Roosevelt Pierrepont Countess Manvers (1889-1984).
