Biography

Ana graduated from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), in Portugal, in 2006, and after some time in mixed practice, she took a position as assistant lecturer in veterinary pathology at the Agrarian School of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, in Portugal, where she remained for over three years. Ana completed her doctoral studies at the University of León, in Spain, as part of a multi-institutional research project funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, with studies on the impact of the administration of different volume replacement solutions in different organs, in a pig model of controlled haemorrhage, with special focus on the intestinal mucosa.

After moving to the United Kingdom, Ana completed an internship at Southfields Veterinary Specialists (formerly VRCC) followed by a fellowship in clinical oncology at the QMHA - Royal Veterinary College. She then completed her residency training in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology at the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Cambridge.

Ana joined the Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science in 2018, and achieved board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2019. Her special interests include companion animal neoplasia, toxicological pathology and different aspects of comparative pathology.
