Ramon is a veterinarian with years of experience in veterinary and medical microbiology, public health, diagnostics and animal infectious diseases. He has a special interest in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial use (AMU) in animals; its impact in the "one health" concept and the mitigation of antimicrobial resistance. Ramon had the opportunity to work both in developing and developed countries in several regions of the world including Asia, Europe and North America. Ramon's experience and skills encompass fields such as teaching; diagnostics and research. He worked in academic institutions; industry and private sector; collaborated with both local and national government and continue to be involved in many volunteer and community projects.

He concentrated in veterinary diagnostics after earning his degree from the University of Cambridge as a Bill Gates Cambridge scholar, considered as one of the most prestigious scholarships in the world. In 2016, Ramon was recognised by Mr. Bill Gates as one of the Gates Cambridge Scholars alumni who has made significant contributions to society. Ramon decided to go back to university to pursue his PhD as a BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP) scholar after many years of working. At The University of Nottingham, he is investigating the use of sex pilus-specific bacteriophage to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Ramon is also a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science (FIBMS); and was awarded by the UK's Science Council a Chartered Scientist (CSci) and by the Royal Society of Biology a Chartered Biologist (CBiol) qualifications. In 2017, Ramon was chosen by The University of Nottingham Student Union as one of the university's Inspirational Students.

During his free time, Ramon enjoys the outdoors and through hiking, cycling and mountain climbing raises money for a charitable institution. He is an avid sports fan and volunteered for major world sporting events such as the 2012 London Olympics and the 2015 England Rugby World Cup. In 2015, he founded The Gaudencio and Roberta Maluping Huwarang Mag-aaral Scholarship Programme, which provides financial support to poor school children in the Philippines.
