WasteNott — the plastics challenge

Simply Cups recycling scheme launches at David Ross Sports Village

The Club House at David Ross Sports Village (DRSV) on University Park, and the Mulberry Tree Café on Sutton Bonington campus have become the first places on our campuses where you can recycle your disposable coffee cups.

The process of recycling single-use hot drink cups is typically hard to achieve in part due to difficulties separating the paper outer and plastic lining of the cup. (Find out more on our WasteNott FAQs.) However, the launch of the Simply Cups scheme enables the recycling of single-use cups disposed of at the dedicated collection points – even if they were purchased elsewhere around the University.

In support of the WasteNott campaign, the Club House café at David Ross Sports Village has started to charge an additional 20p per disposable hot drink cup and will continue to offer a 20p reduction for customers who bring their own reusable cup. Hot drinks are also available at the advertised price in china mugs to be enjoyed by customers who chose to sit in. The 20p additional charge at the Club House café goes directly into funding the Simply Cups recycling scheme.

When dropping off used disposable cups at wither of the outlets, be sure to place your used coffee cups into the separate bins provided in the Café so your cup can be recycled responsibly!
