Aptamers Aptamers are nucleic acid molecules that have been developed to mimic the selective and tight binding of other molecules such as antibodies. In order to identify an aptamer that is capable of binding to a target molecule, a process called Selex (systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment) is utilised. The strategy relies upon a combination of a selective binding assay and amplification by PCR. A ‘library’ of short single-stranded DNA oligonucleotides is synthesised <

Japanese First-Grader
Japan has one of the most successful school systems in the world. It is also one of the most demanding school systems. In this video from Wide Angle, Ken Higashiguchi, a first-grader in a Japanese school, started preschool when he was only one year old. In the video, Ken is experiencing his second day of first grade. He has no problem reading the words of the school song with all of the other children. Ken’s teachers and parents have high expectations for him to be independent and to work

Mushroom Meatloaf with Mushroom Gravy
Recipe at http://www.ciaprochef.com/mushrooms/recipe3.html
Meatloaf is the quintessential American comfort food, and Chef Bill Briwa gives this classic dish a healthy twist with mushrooms. He switches out half the ground meat with chopped mushrooms, which not only adds flavor, but can help the meatloaf from drying out.

2.4.1 The second generation of GM crops Much of the present-day debate about GM plants centres around the existing range of GM crops, most of which have been engineered for herbicide tolerance or insect resistance (covered in course S250_1 Gene manipulation in plants). One of the implications of this narrow commercial focus is that the benefit that such crops would bring, other than to those multinational companies that produce them, is by no means clear. Weighing up their value on some form of ethical scales might be unlike

8.871 Selected Topics in Theoretical Particle Physics: Branes and Gauge Theory Dynamics (MIT)
This course is an introduction to branes in string theory and their world volume dynamics. Instead of looking at the theory from the point of view of the world-sheet observer, we will approach the problem from the point of view of an observer which lives on a brane. Instead of writing down conformal field theory on the world-sheet and studying the properties of these theories, we will look at various branes in string theory and ask how the physics on their world-volume looks like.
Arte y nuevos medios (2012)
“Arte y nuevos medios”, es una asignatura transversal en la rama de las artes visuales contemporáneas que se imparten en el grado de Bellas Artes.
Si existe un cambio en las políticas de la producción artística contemporánea este es el papel del espectador que se configura no como visor ajeno a la obra sino integrado con ella. 4.7 Rectangular hyperbola (e = √2) If the eccentricity e of a hyperbola is equal to √2, then e2 = 2 and b = a. Then the asymptotes of the hyperbola have equations y = ±x, so they are at right angles. A hyperbola whose asymptotes are at right angles is called a rectangular hyperbola.
