The University of Toledo has received a grant to construct a research facility to investigate best ways to create biofuels from algae.
Fit With Program Interests and Research Experiences
In October 2008, the Graduate School held the second of four best practices seminars that are part of the Graduate School's Initiative to Optimize Doctoral Completion. Four faculty members shared ideas about strategies and criteria that they have used in their admissions process to increase the likelihood that the students who are admitted will successfully complete their degrees. John Burns Discusses Research History with Bayer CropScience
John Burns, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University, discusses Texas Tech's research history with Bayer CropScience.
Bayer contributed $7.5 million to support new research initiatives and facilities development for the department. The contribution qualified for a full match through the Texas Research Incentive Program, creating a $15 million total contribution to the university.
Texas Tech Receives $8 Million for Wind Research
Texas Tech and the National Institute for Renewable Energy (NIRE), a non-profit, public/private collaboration, will receive $8.4 million from the Texas Emerging Technology Fund (TETF) allowing them to help resolve key scientific and technology issues facing the wind power industry.
The announcement came July 26 from Gov. Rick Perry, the Texas Tech University System, the Innovate Texas Foundation and The Wind Alliance.
Texas Tech Names New Autism Research Director
David M. Richman will fill the endowed $1.5 million Jere Lynn Burkhart Chair in Special Education in the Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research effective Aug. 1.
Richman most recently was an associate professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Illinois.
Richman's teaching and research focuses on assessment and treatment of behavior disorders such as aggression, property destruction and self-injurious behavior.
