Teaching:
• Start in kneeling position
• Grab handles with overhead grip
Coaching:
• Initiate movement at shoulder blades
• Pull handles down until level with clavicle
• Keep core tight
Common Errors:
• Core is not tight
• Athlete does not allow full extension of arms to occur
1 Leg Hip Crossovers
Teaching:
• Stand on 1 leg with keiser attached to ankle of inside leg
Coaching:
• Keep core tight and perform a hip crossover motion with inside leg
• Stay strong and stable over grounded leg
Common Errors:
• Athlete is not stable over grounded leg
• Athlete rotates hips
• Core is not tight
Lateral Bounds w/ Stick
Teaching:
• Start in an athletic position on one leg
• Keep weight of body over middle of foot on ground
• Maintain upright posture
Coaching:
• Explosively jump to opposite leg
• Land softly on inside ball of opposite foot with knee bent and hold landing for prescribed amount of time
• Absorb the landing at the hip and keep knee in line with ankle
Common Errors:
• Athlete lands on toes
• Athlete does not maximize jump
• Athlete lands hard with leg straight
• Athlete loses g

Dante Lauretta, Ph.D. and professor in the University of Arizona's Lunar and Planetary Sciences Laboratory, started his career at the UA as a math major. As a young student, he was accepted into the NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Research Program.
