This video describes, when graphing radical equations using shifts, how adding or subtracting a constant that is not in the radical will shift the graph up (adding) or down (subtracting). Adding or subtracting a constant that is in the radical will shift the graph left (adding) or right (subtracting). Multiplying a negative constant by the equation will reflect the graph over the x-axis. Multiplying by a number larger than one increases the y-values. (7:12)

This applet is designed to help students understand the meaning of perimeter for regular and irregular shapes. Square boxes can be dragged to the applet's screen to form a shape. The area is determined by the number of boxes in the shape. The perimeter is found by counting the number of unattached sides. Students can check their answer by clicking the Show Perimeter button. Directions explaining how to link the boxes are included. Copyright 2005 Eisenhower National Clearinghouse

ExploraVision is a competition sponsored by Toshiba, Inc. and the National Science Teachers' Association (NSTA). The competition, which is open to all students in grades K-12 attending a school in the U.S., Canada, U.S. territory or a Department of Defense school, provides students a chance to "develop skills that will prepare them well for the 21st century workplace." Through ExploraVision, students work in teams to select a technology, research how it works and why it was invented, and then gi
This Web site contains the free book Predicting Invasions of Nonindigenous Plants and Plant Pests provided by the National Academies Press. Compiled by the US Board on Life Sciences and the Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources, this 194-page book explores the difficulties in predicting the immigration and impact of exotic species. Researchers active in this field may find this free resource of use.
Teachers can direct students to this material to help them investigate a career as a zookeeper. Having students review this page can be an excellent precursor to a job-shadowing activity. The discussion board's set of questions and answers can be a helpful resource for an activity in which students produce a number of pertinent questions that should be asked of a zookeeper when investigating this field of work.
