Risk Management for Enterprises and Individuals
This book is intended for the Risk Management and Insurance course where Risk Management is emphasized. When we think of large risks, we often think in terms of natural hazards such as hurricanes, earthquakes or tornadoes Perhaps man-made disasters come to mind such as the terrorist attacks in the U.S. on September 11, 2001. Strong as the Weakest Link
To introduce the two types of stress that materials undergo — compression and tension — students examine compressive and tensile forces and learn about bridges and skyscrapers. They construct their own building structure using marshmallows and spaghetti to see which structure can hold the most weight. In an associated literacy activity, students explore the psychological concepts of stress and stress management, and complete a writing activity.

Middle School Portal: Math and Science Pathways (MSP2)
This online activity offers students a chance to analyze data stated as percentages to draw conclusions about the similarity of five archeological sites. Students analyze the data by making a table of the differences for each pair of sites by subtracting the smaller percentage from the larger for each of five types of evidence. The activity is one of 80 mathematical challenges featured on the Figure This! web site, where real-world uses of mathematics are emphasized. The activity features a solu

These four activities, use crickets to teach the scientific process to elementary and middle school students. Students will make observations and record data on the types of food that crickets like to eat. In another lab, students determine if crickets respond to light or dark. A “Crickthermometer” activity asks students to design an experiment to find out whether they can predict air temperature by counting the number of times a cricket chirps. AMA Apologizes To Blacks For Past Racial Inequality
Transplant surgeon Clive Callender has hurtful memories of being the only black doctor at medical meetings in the 1970s, met with stark silence when he pleaded for better access to transplant organs for blacks. So when the American Medical Association formally apologized Thursday for more than a century of policies that excluded blacks from a group long considered the voice of American doctors, it was belated, but still welcome.

Building a testbed for mini quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle with protective shroud
Potential applications of small rotorcraft unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) range from military missions to exploration of the planet Mars (Patrick C. O’Brien, 2003). Tasks such as exploration of unknown territories, formation flying, intelligence gathering etc, require UAV to be capable of flying very close to other flying or steady objects. Exposed rotary wings limit rotorcraft vehicle’s capability to fly in proximity of other objects. In some applications, such as rescue operation, urban w
