2.3.3 Drilling

Drilling is expensive, so this next phase of exploration only begins when all the data have been gathered from pre-existing geological and topographic maps, aerial/satellite photographs, geological mapping and from seismic surveying.

The thickness and quality of a coal seam in an area are first determined by drilling boreholes a few kilometres apart using a grid pattern. Mobile drilling rigs (Author(s): The Open University

Visualisation of Design Using Animation for Virtual Prototyping
Although recent technology in time-based representation has vastly improved, animation in virtual prototype design field remains the same. Some designers invest a huge amount of money in the latest visualisation and multimedia technology and yet may create even worse animation. They often cramp sequences resulting in many viewers failing to interpret the design positively as they miss a lot of vital information that explains the design. This paper basically reports the importance of film-making

The line was originally: "Every minute dies a man, Every minute one is born;" but he changed it to "every moment...&c" after receiving a letter from Charles Babbage, the mathematician who is sometimes credited with coming up with the idea of computers or, at least, machines that could calculate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Babbage In his letter Babbage said, "I need hardly point out to y

3.4 Sensitive periods

The steroid hormone testosterone plays a major role in the development of mammals. In particular it is instrumental in causing differences between males and females. One well explored difference concerns play-fighting in young rodents. In the rat, play-fighting is a sequence which begins when one animal pounces on another. The pounce is followed by wrestling and/or boxing and the play-fight usually finishes with one animal on top of the other. A similar sequence of play-fighting is seen in yo

6.1 Introduction

Structural formulae of, for example, hexan-1-ol (Structure 6.1) and PF5 (Structure 5.13) merely tell us the immediate neighbours of any particular atom. They are two-dimensional drawings, which ignore the three-dimensional shapes of the molecules. But in studying the structures obtained by X-ray crystallography in Section 1

3.3.2 Benzene, toluene and xylene

In addition to benzene itself, the catalytic reformer also produces ethylbenzene, toluene and the isomeric xylenes directly. The demand for ethylbenzene is always great as a source of styrene monomer, but toluene does not find great use apart from a relatively small application in polyurethane. This is why most toluene is de-alkylated to increase overall benzene production. A similar problem exists with the xylenes:
