UMMC First in State to Perform Liver Transplant for Treatment of Cholangiocarcinoma
Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare yet lethal cancer of the bile duct. The University of Maryland Medical Center became the first hospital in Maryland to treat a patient with this type of cancer by performing a liver transplant. Dr. Steven Hanish, transplant surgeon and director of hepatobiliary surgery, explains the treatment in this video. The patient, Mr. Nathaniel Brunson, shares his personal story in a separate video.

Living Liver Donation at UMMC
Dr. Steven Hanish, transplant surgeon and director of hepatobiliary surgery at UMMC, explains who can be a living liver donor and who is eligible to receive a living donor liver. He also describes the differences between living liver donation and living kidney donation surgery. UMMC offers adult living donor liver transplant program as an option to help patients with liver disease get transplanted sooner.
