The histone proteins

The genes for the histone proteins are very highly conserved across eukaryotes, reflecting their importance in DNA packaging. The histone family consists of five groups of proteins, histones H1, H2A, H2B, H3 and H4. An examination of their amino acid content gives us clues as to how the histones fulfil their role in DNA packaging. Rather like the polyamines in bacteria, these proteins are highly positively charged, with up to 20% of their amino acids being lysine or arginine, the charged side

5.8.1 Nitrate removal

Nitrate in water has become a significant problem and the EU Directive sets a maximum admissible concentration of 50 g m−3 measured as NO3. This is equivalent to 11.3 g m−3 as N. High nitrate levels can cause cyanosis or methaemoglobinaemia in babies. Legislation allows the designation of nitrate-vulnerable zones and these help to prevent nitrate levels in natural waters increasing in affected areas.

5 Conclusion

Are we now better equipped to answer the three questions posed in Section 1.1?

How are identities formed?

We present ourselves to others through everyday interactions, through the way we speak and dress, marking ourselves as the same as those with whom we share an identity and different from those with whom we do

4.2 What pressures for change were exerted?

The emphasis is very much on the impetus individuals gave to change. Jim Nickson in particular seems to have been a man with energy and vision. The parents set up their own services where they were missing – a holiday chalet, swimming sessions, a club where young people could meet, above all the long-established Welfare Visitor Scheme. They campaigned for services in the community as an alternative to hospital admission. A strong theme is that work they started was often taken up by the loc

Where U.S. Politics Came From
John Green discussed where American politicians come from. In the beginning, soon after the U.S. Constitution was adopted, politics were pretty non-existent. George Washington was elected president with no opposition, everything was new and exciting, and everyone just got along. For several months, anyway. (13:57)

3.2 Surface mining

Many environmental issues arise when surface mining is considered, and such mines regularly arouse local opposition. By their very nature, surface mines have a major impact on the landscape, involving the digging of enormous pits with accompanying noise, dust and traffic movements, and destruction of mature landscape. Increasingly, in recent years the environmentally conscious public has used the planning processes to oppose and sometimes prevent mining on sites where the environmental impact

4.3 Physical grounds for thinking we are immortal

In section III Hume discusses what he calls physical reasons for thinking there is an afterlife. A sensible guess as to what he means by a physical reason is that it is one based on observation and experience of the physical world. He begins by asserting that physical reasons are the ones he has most respect for. (This assertion is unsurprising: his objections to moral reasons, and the metaphysical reasons we skipped, turn on the allegation that they depend on claims that go beyond wha

2 Creationism in disguise

In recent years, creationists have re-branded their hypothesis as 'intelligent design', which asserts that the apparently designed fit of organisms to their conditions of life necessarily implies the existence of an intelligent designer. This idea is no more than the old 'argument from design', promulgated most famously by William Paley in his fable of chancing upon a watch and inferring a watchmaker, which the theory of evolution by natural selection refutes, as brilliantly explained by Rich
