12 Dancing Princesses | Bedtime Stories
The Twelve Dancing Princesses" (or "The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes" or "The Shoes that were Danced to Pieces") (German: Die Zwölf Tanzen Prinzessinnen in German) is a German fairy tale bedtime story originally published by the Brothers Grimm in 1812 in Kinder- und Hausmärchen as tale number 133. Its closest analogue is the Scottish Kate Crackernuts, where it is a prince who is obliged to dance every night. (10:36)

3.1 Market access: expectations unfulfilled

A key objective of developing countries in trade liberalisation negotiations is access for their exports to the markets of developed countries. However, the rules have been played out by developed countries in ways that block the hoped-for rise in exports.

1.5.6 Copyright – what you need to know

An original piece of work, whether it is text, music, pictures, sound recordings, web pages, etc., is protected by copyright law and may often have an accompanying symbol (©) and/or legal statement. In the UK it is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 which regulates this.

In most circumstances, works protected by copyright can be used in whole or in part only with the permission of the owner. In some cases this permission results in a fee.

However, the UK legislation incl

1.2.2 Reviewing the research: how people understand ‘health’

Being a contested concept, ‘health’ is constantly being redefined and re-evaluated. Lay people do not necessarily accept biomedical definitions of health and illness uncritically. Instead they have a complex web of beliefs, constructs and understandings about health and illness. These inform people's health behaviour, including decisions about whether to self-manage, seek help within local or lay networks, or consult a health professional.

Some lay people regard health as the absenc

1.3.4 Guidelines for graphics

  1. Data in the form of counts of individual entities (for example, people, animals, power stations) in a small set of discrete categories can be presented in bar charts or pie charts. For most purposes, bar charts are preferable. Pie charts draw particular attention to the proportions in which the entities are split between the different categories. However, they do so by representing the proportions by angles, and even when the main interest lies in the propor

The competitive advantage and catching-up of nations
At a time when the global economic slowdown is encouraging countries and companies to introduce neo-protectionist policies - including possible moves by the new US President-elect to penalise American firms who relocate jobs outside the US - we should not ignore the efforts of smaller developing countries to catch-up, says Judge Business School's Dr Christos Pitelis.

3.6.2 Making learning posters

You may find that, rather than reducing notes to small summary cards, you prefer to produce large posters detailing key points on particular topics. Use pattern, colour, diagrams and drawings in your posters, and display them in parts of your home where you might have an opportunity to gaze at them for some time and absorb the information. One student we know put them around the bathroom! If you have a strong visual memory, then lively posters really help the remembering process.

21L.007 World Literatures: Travel Writing (MIT)
This semester, we will read writing about travel and place from Columbus's Diario through the present. Travel writing has some special features that will shape both the content and the work for this subject: reflecting the point of view, narrative choices, and style of individuals, it also responds to the pressures of a real world only marginally under their control. Whether the traveler is a curious tourist, the leader of a national expedition, or a starving, half-naked survivor, the encounter

Introduction

The scientific theory of plate tectonics suggests that at least some of these Arctic lands were once tropical. Since then the continents have moved and ice has changed the landscape. This unit will concentrate on evidence from the last 800,000 years using information collected from ice cores from Greenland and Antarctica, and will use this evidence to discuss current and possible future climate. The cores show that there have been nine periods in the recent past when large areas of the Earth

Moving from Hype to Impact with Digital Health
Digital Health mobile apps and connected medical devices are rapidly changing how patients learn, monitor, diagnose and treat disease. Even in these early days of the digital transformation of healthcare, connected medical devices and digital services are winning reimbursement as “digiceuticals” by payors and insurers. However, the critical need going forward is how to measure, compare and prove these new tools and digital biomarkers are safe, effective and valuable at scale, not just in the

2 Your own mathematics

It is crucial to remember that you are a learner of mathematics as well as a teacher. In this course you will be asked to undertake some mathematical tasks. The aim of these tasks is not to improve your mathematics, but to give you experience of doing mathematics for yourself—experience that you can reflect upon subsequently. The reflection is used to develop your awareness of the ways that learners deal with mathematical tasks, and how learners' mathematical thinking is influenced by the w

6 Conclusion

The major thematic contrasts of European development in terms of unity and diversity, and conflict and consensus, thus persist at the beginning of the twenty-first century, although aspects of unity and consensus had tended to prevail following the relaunching of the European project after 1945. Although this represented something of a break with tradition for modern Europe, it was by no means clear that this represented a full-scale transformation or pointed to the emergence of a Europe that

In a Post-Boom World, Auto Prices Will Fall

It seems that each new bubble brings forth claims that, although the bubble may be the result of artificially created demand, prices of this or that product will not fall and may even continue to rise. How many so-called real estate and financial planning “experts” claimed that the surest path to financial security was in buying the largest house possible with the least amount of one’s own money?
