5.12 Vibrating air column: pitches of notes produced by wind instruments

In a wind instrument, the air column is the primary vibrator. To excite the air column, a musician either blows across it (e.g. flute) or blows down it via a mouthpiece (e.g. trumpet) or reed (e.g. oboe). 3.2 Growth of Europe's regions

In the 1960s and 1970s some states, including the UK, contributed to politicising regional economic development by first defining ‘problem regions’ (for example, Central Scotland) and then failing to solve their problems. Here central states were still setting the agenda, but increasingly the lead was taken within the regions themselves, especially in regions with past experience of autonomy or their own nationalist tradition.

Nationalism had a ‘bad press’ from the 1930s and 194

In planning your learning resource, you need to keep four questions in mind.

  1. What are you trying to achieve with this teaching course – what are your aims?
  2. What activities do you wish the learners to engage with in order to demonstrate or achieve those aims – what are the learning objectives or outcomes, and how are they to be assessed?
  3. How will you evaluate the effectiveness of what you have produced?

4.3.2 Propagation

Once a small number of chains have been started, propagation involves successive addition of monomer units to achieve chain growth. At each step the free radical is regenerated as it reacts with the double bond. So in the case of styrene the propagation step is
