27 - Legacies of the Civil War
Professor Blight finishes his lecture series with a discussion of the legacies of the Civil War. Since the nineteenth century, Blight suggests, there have been three predominant strains of Civil War memory, which Blight defines as reconciliationist, white supremacist, and emancipationist. The war has retained a political currency throughout the years, and the ability to control the memory of the Civil War has been, and continues to be, hotly contested.

Introduction This course provides an introduction to data and processes in software, and provides a basis that enables these fundamental ideas to be developed in a clear and precise way. It has two main aims. The first is to illustrate how we can describe ways in which data may be structured and processed. The second is to introduce you to some vocabulary and concepts that help us to do this. The material is accessible to anyone with a little experience of the use of symbols in presenting ideas. Sec
Here We Are Now (Entertain Us): Location, Mobile, and How Data Tells Stories
Location-based services and context-aware technologies are altering the way we encounter our environments and producing enormous volumes of data about where we go, what we do, and how we live and interact. How are these changes transforming the ways we engage with our physical world, and with each other? What kind of stories does the data produce, and what do they tell us about our culture and social behaviors? What opportunities and perils does this information have for businesses and individua
2.1 Introduction In all the analysis of stellar properties discussed so far we have made an implicit assumption - that light emitted by a star is not changed between its emission and its arrival outside the Earth's atmosphere, except by the inverse square law (i.e. it is reduced by a factor of d2, where d is the distance to the star) and by the Doppler effect. However, this may not be the case. Douglas Melton, Harvard University: "Stem Cell Challenges in Biology and Public Policy" - April 10, Mycotoxins in Cereals: How to Avoid?
Douglas Melton will discuss the biology and public policy challenges
surrounding stem cell research. The potential of human embryonic stem cells for understanding human development and finding new therapies will be presented.
Dr. Melton is a cell and molecular biologist as well as an advocate of embryonic stem cell research. His research focuses on the developmental biology of the pancreas. One of the primary goals of his work is to understand how human embryonic stem cells differentiate into pa
