SEM image of open cell polyurethane foam
If a gas is injected into a liquid it forms a cellular foam structure. When a thermoset prepolymer of low viscosity is foamed, the polymer can drain from the cell walls (driven by surface tension) before it sets at the cell edges, leaving an open-celled foam. The cell edges have three concave sides, giving rise to the tri-cuspid cross section visible at the bottom of this image. The average co-ordination number for the nodes (where struts meet) is four, giving tetrahedral junctions.
2 The biology of prions The increasing interest in kuru during the 1950s and 1960s had the effect of stimulating research into TSEs in humans and other animals. Summarise, in general terms, the possible causes of disease in animals. 2.9 Summary In this section, I started by emphasising the fact that the computer, which has become more or less omnipresent in modern society, is a tool like any other. I went on to look at the special nature of that tool, establishing that its function is to capture, store, present, exchange and manipulate interesting aspects of the world. I then introduced the idea of two contrasting realms: the analogue world we inhabit and the digital interior world of the computer. When we capture featur How Ending Tax-free Tuition Waivers Could Impact U.S. Higher Ed 8.3

FORMGRIP closed cell aluminium foam Student views of the OU Introduction People have always communicated with each other – initially by face-to-face communication through gestures and sounds, then over a distance through written messages and signals in the form of fires, lights or flags. Technology, for instance in the form of electrical signals, has reduced many of the limitations of distance. Communication networks have become very important, and modern society depends on them for the smooth operation of economic and social activities. As the sociologist and philosopher, Alfred Schutz (1954) argued, it is important to pay careful attention to the relationship between sociological and everyday concepts, since everyday concepts express the meanings by which social interactions are framed. So how do people themselves understand, encounter, interpret and evoke the very slippery c Mrs. Kennedy Speaks Following JFK's Death Writers reading: favourite books What books do writers read for pleasure? In the first type, so-called 'repeated measurement', an individual quantity is measured a number of times. An astronomer wanting to determine the light output of a star would take many measurements on a number of different nights to even out the effects of the various possible fluctuations in the atmosphere that are a cause of stars 'twinkling'. In the second type 3.4 Newsgroups A newsgroup is a collection of internet users who are interested in a particular topic. The topic may be a technical one, for example the LINUX operating system, or a recreational one such as fly fishing. Members of a newsgroup send messages associated with a particular issue such as the date of release of the next version of LINUX or the efficacy of using certain fiies on certain rivers. Each message – known as a posting – will contain the user's thoughts on the topic. Once

Additions such as SiC are made to molten aluminium or aluminium alloy to modify the melt viscosity and make it suitable for foaming. 1 to 3 wt% of pre-oxidised titanium hydride is then added to the melt which is solidified to form a precursor which can be foamed in a controlled manner by a subsequent heat treatment. The resulting foam has a relatively fine and uniform cell structure.

Less than two months after her husband was killed, Mrs. Kennedy made a newsreel tape, thanking the American people for all their expressions of sympathy after JFK's death. The tape was played in movie theaters, before the feature film was shown, and is now maintained in the National Archives.

Although the processing route is complicated and the product expensive, there is a high degree of control over the cell structure of such foams and the final shape can be controlled to meet near-net-shape requirements.
