This unit looks at the human being in the context of an individual life cycle, examining some of the processes that contribute to the formation of a new person. After a brief discussion of historical ideas about human conception, and about contraception to the present day, we look at the cells involved in the conception and development of a new individual. This fall will mark a very special milestone for East Carolina, as the brand-new School of Dental Medicine welcomes its very first class into the Pirate family.
Not only will the school be beneficial to eastern North Carolina, but to the entire state, as well. As part of its dental school, ECU plans to establish 10 Community Service-Learning Centers in North Carolina. These centers will bring dental care into rural and underserved areas that desperately need good dental care.
