Claude Monet: A Collection of 1540 Paintings (HD)
This may be good for students in a study hall or entering an art classroom. Claude Oscar Monet was born in Paris on November 14, 1840. Soon after, his family moved to Le Havre, where he spent his youth. His acquaintance with Eugène Boudin lead to Monet seriously pursueing his education as a painter in 1858. Boudin and Jongkind taught Monet to always work in the field in front of his motif. The following year Monet went to Paris anyway to begin academic training. (02:08:21)

2.2 Going up: using scientific notation for large numbers

Think again about the value for the total volume of water stored on Earth: 1460 000 000 km3.

When dealing with large numbers such as one thousand four hundred and sixty million (1460 000 000), it is tedious to write the number in words or to keep writing all of those zeros. Worse still, it is very easy to lose some of the zeros or add extra ones by mistake. Fortunately, large numbers can be referred to without having to write out all of the zeros. The powers of ten not

6.3.1 Collimator

Without a collimator, gamma rays from all directions would be collected by the crystal and no useful image could be obtained. Gamma rays cannot be focused by a lens but a collimator consisting of a series of holes in a lead plate can be used to select the direction of the rays falling on the crystal. Most collimators in use today are parallel hole collimators. A parallel hole collimator is shown schematically in Author(s): The Open University

That Incredible Little Arctic Tern
We went to Antarctica to see the penguins, and we certainly did. But we saw so much more wildlife: orcas and elephant seals and leopard seals and many different seabirds. My favorite is the arctic tern, a little bird that migrates farther every year than any other in the world... from the Antarctic to the Arctic, and back - 20,000 miles every year. (03:00)

4.2 Using antidepressants for grief

In addition to tranquilisers, antidepressant medication may be considered when a person approaches a doctor for help following bereavement. Prescribing doctors may feel under pressure to ‘do something’ to help the person who presents to them. Neither party may be aware of other options that may be effective in helping in these potentially difficult situations. Indeed, local support groups, psychotherapy, counselling and other possible alternatives may not be readily available.

10.2 Media coverage of cloning and genetic medical research

Hargreaves, I., Lewis, J. and Speers, T. ‘Towards a better map: Science, the public and the media’, Economic and Social Research Council.

3.2 Poverty as natural/inevitable

There is a construction of poverty that identifies it as a necessary feature of social life: some people will be better endowed, try harder or be more successful than others, and inequality will be an inevitable result (see, for example, Herrnstein and Murray, 1994, who argue that low levels of intelligence are the main determinants of poverty in the USA). Interfering with this natural order of things is dangerous, particularly because it prevents poverty acting as a spur to try harder. This
