Rebels of a Neon God (青少年哪吒) tells the story of Hsiao Kang (played by Li Kangsheng 李康生), a loner who inhabits the gritty streets of early 1990s Taipei. The rebelliousness that permeated Li Kangsheng’s generation in Taiwan is a key theme of the film. Li Kangsheng brings an authenticity to the role, drawing on his own life experience, which in turn helped to inspire the final form of the movie. At the center of the Vela supernova remnant is a madly spinning neutron star.
