This double-sided volvelle is from Le Grand Guidon et Tresor Journalier des Astres, published in Rouen in 1680 by Jean Oursel. One side of the volvelle is a perpetual calendar; the other gives the phases of the moon and astrological information. The calendar was mean to be truly perpetual: the title page says you can use the tables to find out when each year’s holidays will occur in “1681, 1682, 1683 … 2000, 3000, 3500 … ” and so on.
