Ask the Expert: Meteors
Ask the Astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson, goes to the park to see if anyone has any questions.  A boy in the park asks, “How fast does meteorite moves in space?”  He explains that meteor moves through space and if you find it on the ground then it is a meteorite. Sometimes the speed is 10-15 miles per second.  He then shows the children friction and explains how the atmosphere protects us from meteorites.

1.2.6 Summary of Section 2

In this section you have been introduced to some guidelines for presenting data in tables. These guidelines apply particularly when the data in a table are being used to illustrate a particular point or to show up clearly a particular pattern.

You have seen that, in some circumstances, following the second of these guidelines leads to some pooling together of rows. (In other cases, it could be columns or individual cells that are pooled.) However, care is needed when, by making such sim

2.5 Non-Linearity

A linear system can be defined in two ways: (1) one which obeys the principle of superposition, and (2) one possessing the frequency-preservation property.

If we consider an optical fibre with electromagnetic field as the input and output, then provided that the power level of the input signal is not too great (less than 1 mW, which is 0 dBm), the fibre may be well modelled by a linear system for most purposes.

When fibre is used for a single point-to-point link to convey a digita

2.3 After the recording

It follows that sorting MacLean's poems out by ‘themes’ entails the risk of disguising the tight interlocking of ‘Politics’, ‘Love’, ‘Landscape’, ‘War’ and ‘History’ in all his poetry down to 1945. Nevertheless, for convenience's sake, I will do this.

In this project then, we’re looking at young graduates in nursing, engineering and accountancy going into their first jobs, and we’re trying to find out what they’re learning, how is that being learnt, and what sort of things affect their learning. In telling you about our project and the way it is working, I also aim to give you some inkling of what seems to be coming out from the people we’ve already spoken to about higher education, what they’ve derived from it, what they’re abl

2.2 Recent governance failures

As we have discussed before, the creation of corporate regulation is often linked to perceived failures of corporations and their management to behave in the way society expect them to. Corporate governance is not an exception to this trend, and, as with accounting, different countries may well experience difficulties at different times. For example, the development of British codes of best practice, which began with the Cadbury Committee, can be related to governance scandals such as Polly P

7.4 Patterns

While frameworks and components focus on the reuse of previously developed software, patterns focus on the reuse of expertise. A pattern is a general solution to problem; it is the result of abstracting what is common practice in solving a set of similar problems.

Patterns became a significant topic during the 1990s within an object community disappointed with the low level of reuse being achieved. Instead of concentrating on yet more new methods, the patterns movement looked at
