Completed Exterior Restoration Work of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument
The exterior work on the monument was completed in time for the opening of the Pan American Games. Interior restoration took place over the next three years. A new elevator was installed and the 330 metal steps to the top were repainted. The interior walls were sprayed with liquid nitrogen so the old paint would freeze and fall off.
