1.2 The Sandham Memorial Chapel So let us turn first of all to the visual arts, and see how one artist, Stanley Spencer, created a memorial to those who died in the First World War. Spencer was profoundly affected by his experience of the war, and decorated the walls of a chapel especially designed to display his work. First of all, it will help to have a few biographical details. This is not because you could not understand his painting without knowing about him: you could certainly pick up a lot of information about

There are many different ways of interpreting and representing the character and identity of a place – many different geographical imaginations. Identities of places are a product of social action and of how people construct their own representations of particular places. Thus this unit explores ideas about place and identity using the concept of ‘geographical imagination’. This is achieved by examining the images that represent a place, to reveal how those images came about and d Birds of Prey 2 A 4.6 billion-year history Climate change is a natural process of warming and cooling that has occurred all through the Earth's history. Throughout geological time there have been ‘hot-house’ periods and ice ages. In order to understand the current situation, it is necessary to have some sense of context and perspective, from historical and geological time-scales. The document below shows a chart showing a generalised temperature history of the Earth. You may find that even if you do have some sort of filing system, your structure soon gets quite large with files in multiple locations, which can be hard to navigate. You may find yourself making arbitrary decisions about which folder to place a document in. It may make sense now but in the future, when you look where you think it should be, it’s not there. At times like this you may resort to the search command from the Wi Khan Academy: Chemistry 1 App for iOS 3.2 Negative coordinates Up to now only those points with positive or zero coordinates have been considered. But the system can be made to cope with points involving negative coordinates, such as (−2, 3) or (−2, −3). Just as a number line can be extended to deal with negative numbers, the x-axis and y-axis can be extended to deal with negative coordinates. 21W.732-2 Introduction to Technical Communication: Ethics in Science and Technology (MIT) 2.3.1 Public participation and perspectives on sustainability When it comes to issues around the environment, ‘experts’ – whether ecologists, economists or other types of social scientist – are clearly not infallible. Environmental crises have led to a questioning of traditional expert support as a guarantor of environmental planning. This has had two consequences. Firstly, there have been some interesting and useful explorations amongst environmentalists in seeking guarantors through the domain of spiritualism. In particular, traditional worldv 5.2 Electronic kitchen scales A set of electronic kitchen scales is shown in Figure 7. Their basic operation is relatively simple. Twelfth Night, Part 2 of Torsional energy can be taken up by alternative DNA conformations The energy introduced into DNA by twisting has great potential as a regulatory mechanism, since the free energy can be stored in a variety of different high-energy conformations along the chain. 1.6.1 Introduction As to the propriety and justness of representing sums of money, and time, by parts of space, tho’ very readily agreed to by most men, yet a few seem to apprehend that there may possibly be some deception in it, of which they are not aware … (William Playfair (1786) The Commercial and Political Atlas, London) The political economist William Playfair, who developed many of the graphical r Nitrogen 1.7.3 What is proportion? A common criticism of many children's and some adults' drawings is that certain parts are not ‘in proportion’. That means that they are either too big or too small in relation to the rest of the masterpiece. ‘In proportion’ means being in the same ratio. Imagine that you have drawn a picture of the front of your house, reducing it in scale to one twentieth of its size.
