Mission into distant space
In this public lecture, astrophysicist Dr Chris North takes its audience on a journey through space to understand the most distant stars and galaxies, exploring the findings of the Herschel Space Observatory. Dr North has worked on a number of space missions and is currently part of the Herschel Observatory team, looking at far-infrared light from stars forming in our galaxy and across the Universe.Author(s):
Season 3 – Lesson 20 – Coffee Break Spanish Episode 20 features the fourth installment of our ‘telenovela’, Verano Español. Find out the latest about the life of Laura and her mother as they spend the summer in Spain en la casa de tÃa Julia. Will Laura find out a little more about the mystery customer in the panaderÃa? Please note that lesson 20 of Season 3 was originally known as lesson 320 of Coffee Break Spanish. We have renumbered the lessons of each season as lessons 1-

5.2 Conflict and consensus The diverse forms of conflict that have marked long periods of European history hardly require further emphasis here. The first half of the twentieth century, in particular, was clearly dominated by what many have described as a European civil war. Since 1945, in marked contrast, the western part of the continent has been increasingly dominated by a growing number of freely associated countries in the name of a newly constituted ‘Europe’. It has been remarkably successful in developing me

2.2.1 Summary Children's developing understanding of gender can be described as a search for certainty. Young children make mistakes about gender illustrating their rigidity and their naive certainty regarding gender. As children's knowledge of gender grows in complexity, basic biological knowledge is added to their social-cultural understanding. Research by Francis illustrating girls' ‘sensible-selfless’ and boys' â
Ecological Validity of Real Scale Models
Space simulation is a technique employed by architects, urban designers, environmental psychologists and other related specialists. It is used for academic and research purposes, as an aid to evaluate the impact that the built environment or that to be built would yield in potential or real users. Real Scale Model is organized as one of the models which represents more reliable spatial characteristics in space simulations. However, it is necessary to know the ecological validity of the simulat
Introduction This unit is an adapted extract from the course Pure mathematics
(M208) The idea of vectors and conics may be new to you. In this unit we look at some of the ways that we represent points, lines and planes in mathematics. In Section 1 we revise coordinate geometry in two-dimensional Euclidean space,
2.3 Is religion a museum piece? We have used the video sequence below to highlight the emic/etic problem and we would like you to carry out a short exercise using it to consolidate your understanding of these terms. The video introduces St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art in Glasgow, which has been described as the first public museum of religion in the world. Do note, however, that the Museum of Religions at the University of Marburg, Germany was founded in 1927 by Rudolf Otto. It contains a considerable number
3.2 What does a processor look like? So what do these devices that are manufactured in such vast quantities look like? Processors are manufactured as integrated circuits. Essentially they are circuits, around the size of a fingernail, which contain many millions of electronic components manufactured as one very complex circuit. Figure 4(a) shows how a processor manufactured as an integrated circuit is packaged so it can be used as a component in an electronic circuit. The pins of the package are connected to the integrated circu
TALAT Lecture 2101.02: The product development process
This lecture provides a brief introduction to the product development process and systematic design. It aims at generating interest in and a common understanding of the product development process; telling about the basic principles and terminology used in connection with systematic design in order to facilitate the use of the four product design examples presented in this course (see TALAT lectures 2102.01 - .04). The lecture is recommended for those situations, where a brief, general backgrou
1.2 The growth of the legal system The legal system plays a significant and growing role in society as our lives become governed by an increasing number of laws. As our society has become more sophisticated, a greater number of laws have been required. This in turn has resulted in our legal system becoming increasingly more complex. Changes in technology, the way in which we live and the types of relationships we have are all reflected by the law. Society expects the law to reflect its ideas, values and culture, so the law has
3.4 Further exercises (a) Find the angle between each of the pairs of vectors: (3, 1) and (1, −2); i + 2j and −3i + j − 2k. 10.1 Introduction For a variety of reasons, not least the very wide dynamic range of human hearing, the decibel (symbol dB) is often used as a unit for the amplitude of sound waves. The decibel is also used in other contexts, such as specifying the amplification of amplifiers or the degree to which a signal is affected by noise. In the context of sound, the use of the decibel as a unit captures something of the subjective impression of the way loudness changes with amplitude. The decibel unit has Pakistan mob kills woman and girls, over "blasphemous" Facebook post Epidemiology and Biostatistics Internet Scout Project Internet Scout Project Internet Scout Project Internet Scout Project

This course teaches the basic skills needed to critique the medical literature by providing a fundamental understanding of epidemiology and biostatistics. One highlight of the course is the Small Group Session. The small group format provides one with an excellent opportunity to closely interact with a faculty member by enhancing the concepts taught in the lectures and clarifying questions concerning the lecture material.
A recent USGS open file report entitled Ranking of the World's Oil and Gas Provinces by Known Petroleum Volumes groups the worlds 937 geologic provinces into eight regions by known petroleum volumes of field. This site succintly describes the ranking methods used and results of the study. Perhaps not surprisingly, the Middle East and North Africa was found to contain nearly twice as many billions of barrels of oil than any other area. The researchers hope that the rankings will "facilitate studi
The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) has released online ice thickness and surface elevation data for the Ross Ice Sheet of Western Antarctica. This data is a result of the Corridor aerogeophysics of the Southeastern Ross Transect Zone (CASERTZ) experiments of the 1990s. According to NSDIC, "the CASERTZ geophysical surveys were aimed at understanding geological controls on ice streams of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, ultimately to help assess the potential for ice sheet collapse." Part of the National Center for Education Statistics' Classroom feature, Create a Graph is a simple, visual program in which kids can create a custom bar, area, line or pie graph. Clicking on the graph type from the menu leads to a brief overview about that type of graph, what sorts of data it is useful for, and links to the data entry page. On the data entry page, kids can enter up to 15 data values, type titles, select graph size and colors (12 to choose from), designate .png or .jpeg file typ
The Plymouth State Weather Center offers the latest observations and forecasts for the United States and Southern Canada. By simply selecting a state, individuals can find data on the temperature, wind direction and speed, cloud cover, and other weather information for stations throughout the selected region. The website provides a state forecast as well. The map on the homepage allows users to observe the overall weather patterns throughout the continental United States and Southern Canada.
