You see a picture of Lisa which was introduced in 1983. Statistics are given about the computers and what they would cost in modern day prices. (2:35)
Basic Math - Number Patterns
Studying number patterns is important for two reasons. First, they help one better understand the concepts of arithmetic and provide a basis for understanding the concepts of more complex mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, calculus). Second, pattern recognition is a useful problem-solving skill, both in mathematics and in real-world situations. Patterns involving odd and even numbers are investigated. Patterns in multiples of certain numbers lead to an understanding of divisibility rules. Seque
Private Universe Project in Mathematics: Workshop 4: Thinking Like a Mathematician
What does a mathematician do? What does it mean to think like a mathematician? This program parallels what a mathematician does in real life with the creative thinking of students.,How a Mathematician Approaches Problems. Fern Hunt, a mathematician at the National Institute for Standards and Technology, is seen as she collaborates with colleagues to solve difficult technical problems. Using the metaphor of the childrens game Towers of Hanoi, she explains her approach to solving problems. In a

Coffee Break Spanish future plans As you all know, Coffee Break Spanish level 2 came to an end with lesson 80 and we’re planning to follow up the course with similar content to our Season 3 of Coffee Break French. However, we’ve only just started working on this content, so it’s likely that it will be available later in the year. We have been asked about the next steps for Coffee Break Spanish listeners and it seems that many listeners have not heard of our intermediate/advanced course Show Time Spanish. We’ve

2.2 Browsing for information on the Web One way to find what you are looking for on the Web is to start from sites that you know are likely to have useful 'links' on them, like the main Open University pages or the Open University Library pages. These opening pages are known as home pages and are a bit like the contents page of a book. The home page usually gives you some information about the content of the website, often with links to other pages of information held on that site and on sites elsewhere. By clicking on a link – w

Dr Verhaeghe teaches Clinical Psychodiagnostics, Psychoanalytic therapy and Gender studies. He is an analyst in private practice, member of the NLS and the WAP. He has published eight books (5 are translated in English) and more than hundred papers. His two most recent books bring a critique on cont
2.3 Analysing nucleic acid structures In studying nucleic acid structures, many different experimental approaches can be adopted. In many cases, nucleic acid structures are examined in vitro, under non-physiological conditions, such as after denaturation or chemical synthesis. Nucleic acids within a cell are formed under very specific conditions and the structures that they adopt are influenced not only by the nature of their synthesis (by DNA or RNA polymerases), but by ancillary proteins that influence their folding. Nev
11.4 Vaccine safety Horton, R. (2004) ‘The lessons of MMR’, The Lancet, 363, 6 March 2004, pp 747–749 Elsevier. Copyright © 2004 Elsevier. In a review of the unintended effects associated with MMR, Jefferson and colleagues10 found that the reporting of safety outcomes in MMR vaccine studies was inadequate. Here is a constantly repeated scenario in health-technology assessment (another example: the row over the safety of calcium-channel blockers). A product undergoes limited
CRYSALLIZING DESIGN INTENTIONS, USING CNC, LASER AND RAPID PROTOTYPING TECHNOLOGIES
The advances made in the Rapid Prototyping and CAD/CAM (including CNC and Laser) Technologies are now offering designers the privilege of building physical realities, at whatever scale, directly and automatically from computer files, with the explicit implications of speed, precision and flexibility.
4.1 Are photographs truthful? In this unit, we've looked at several examples of the social processes of identity construction and a number of dimensions of identity. Our discussion has indicated that we cannot try to understand the role of images through one approach alone, but need to utilise both content and context analyses. It makes sense to ask whether the same sort of approaches can be applied to other types of image. How should we analyse ‘factual’ images which deal with social issues such as thos
7.4.6 Molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) Where a suitable ALD chemistry cannot be found, or where cleanliness and high crystallinity are required, molecular beam epitaxy may be necessary. This is more akin to evaporation than to CVD, with multiple molecular beams of the separate chemical constituents each focused onto the hot wafer surface. Deposition is performed under extreme vacuum conditions (10−11 mbar) to prevent any contaminants from being incorporated, and the substrate must present a perfect cleaved crystal fac
