1.3.4 Bringing remote sweatshops within reach continued Another claim made by the movement is that we are all in some way connected to a market system which effectively allows sweatshops to exist in the first place. This is about more than targeting the big brand names and linking them directly to exploitation abroad; rather, it is about piecing together the global market machinery that ties the corporate buyer, the boardroom executive, the factory owner and the consumer into a system which establishes particular lines of responsibility (Ha

7.3 The eukaryotic chromosome Whilst the bulk of eukaryotic DNA is packaged by proteins different from those in the eubacterial chromosome, the principles of bending DNA and neutralising the negative charges in its backbone are shared. Eukaryotic cells have considerably larger genomes than do prokaryotes (in most cases over 1000 times the size of the E. coli genome – see Author(s):
8.2 Chromosome scaffolds Most of the chromosomal DNA chains within the interphase nucleus are believed to be held on a scaffold or backbone structure made from various proteins, with loops of between 20 and 200Â kb extruding from attachment sites. This chromosome structure is shown schematically in Figure 40. The scaffold, as well as permitting further compaction, serves to bring the DNA together in organised regions. There are many different protein components of these scaffolds, amongst them DNA topoisomerases.
The TEAM Approach – Optics and Market Opportunity
Joseph Choi, 2013 graduate of the Technical Entrepreneurship and Management (TEAM) program, talks about how that program has helped him as he continues his education as a PhD student in the Institute of Optics. Choi also talks about the cloaking device that he helped develop, which has received international attention.
Working with professor of optics John Howell, Choi helped to develop a simplified version of a cloaking device with four lenses, spaced at precise intervals, designed to bend lig
Primes Sieve (sv)
This is one of three videos a team and I did to try using video to convey prime number ideas to middle school students. This one uses the Sieve of Eratosthenes as a graphic visual (get it?) to help students see how one might reduce the numbers from 1-100 to just the primes. This video is part of the video collection at NextVista.org (http://nextvista.org), a proud partner of Curriki.
Circulatory System
This video is a rap that demonstrates how the blood flows from the heart to the rest of the body. There are graphics that show how the blood is transported through the body.

Genesis Chapter 48 - New International Version of the Bible
This video contains a high quality narration of The Book of Genesis, Chapter 48, from the New International Version of the Bible. Scriptures read by professional voice actors, along with good music and sound effects. No moving images.
Welfare: from Beveridge to the fourth industrial revolution [Audio]
Speaker(s): David Gauke | Beveridge offered a radical response to the social and economic circumstances of his time in a country emerging from global depression and conflict. Yet today’s world would be unrecognisable to Beveridge: the past 75 years have seen significant social and economic changes that the welfare system has needed to accommodate. We now face further significant changes as we enter the fourth industrial revolution. Our welfare system will need to change to adapt to future circ
6.1 Introduction The process of keeping up-to-date in your chosen subject area is useful for your studies and afterwards, for your own personal satisfaction, or perhaps in your career as part of your continuing professional development. There are a great many tools available that make it quite easy to keep yourself up to date. You can set them up so that the information comes to you, rather than you having to go out on the web looking for it. Over the next few pages, you will be experimenting with some
7.2 An EU constitution: moving the debate on In the next activity you will be able to build upon the previous one and observe the way in which the debate on the new EU constitution has progressed and moved to another level on its way to ratification. 16.5 Where does the systems practitioner stand in relation to a system of interest? Systems practice may be carried out individually or as part of a team. In doing action research – which is a form of managing – an important question is: On us or with us? (Figure 47). This question seems pertinent to the process that led to the establishment of the Child Support 3.17.1 Try some yourself Evaluate each of the following and give an example from everyday life to illustrate the sum (e.g. Thomas's piggy bank). Control models are a useful way of investigating purpose and the means in place to achieve it. They address issues like ‘What is X trying to achieve?’ ‘How are they trying to do it?’ and ‘How will they know when they've done it?’ Control-model diagrams provide a structure for exploring these questions. The drawing of the model allows you to decide whet Glancing ahead Take a very quick look through Section 1.5 of the Calculator Book, entitled ‘Everyday calculations’. Do not read it all yet! The first activity – ‘Preparation of research summary’ – will allow us to orient the various sessions towards your specific experiences. Please complete this activity now following the instructions provided below. 4 D-I-Y science: independently engaging with science It could be argued that relying on institutional science promotion events might overlook a subtle, but equally important means of people engaging with science: when science is accessed on an informal, independent or non-institutional basis (previously referred to as a do-it-yourself style of science promotion). Rather than seeing this as an anarchistic rejection of formal initiatives (although this might occasionally be the case), it could indicate an extra measure of commitment on behalf of

Speaker(s): Kate Andrews, Steve Erlanger, Gideon Rachman, Stephanie Rickard, Peter Trubowitz | On the 1st of March millions of American voters in 12 states will go to the polls in the 2016 US presidential election's 'Super Tuesday’ primary. The race so far has been unlike any in recent memory with the rise of outsider candidates from both the Republican and Democratic parties which has led to the most open-ended election in decades. Super Tuesday will make the direction of the race much cleare
