Designing for Collaboration and Mutual Negotiation of Meaning – Boundary Objects in Networked Learn
This paper addresses the issue of collaborative learning and networked learning within continuing professional
development. Collaborative learning is defined as the meeting of specific differences and dependencies among
participants and practices within and across communities, afforded and constrained by the pedagogical design.
The study explores how boundary objects serve as resources to support collaborative learning as a means of
representing, learning about, and transforming knowledge. Based

Socrates Mailbox - Synthesis Report
A two-year Observatory project in the context of the SOCRATES - ODL sub-programme of
the DG22 of the European Commission, the Socrates - Mailbox project started in September 1996.
It aims at studying the use of electronic communication systems in Primary and Secondary school
environments, through an ethnographic approach. The experiences of 17 schools have been studied
in six European countries.,Final report of the Socrates-Mailbox research project, National Centre for Educational Resources, Osl
Functional Behaviour of Materials: Introduction to Semiconductors
This set of animations covers the principles and applications of semiconductors. From TLP: Introduction to Semiconductors
What’s Gotten Into You?
In this activity, students use models to investigate the process and consequences of water contamination on the land, groundwater, and plants. This is a good introduction to building water filters found in the associated activity, The Dirty Water Project.
Composting – Nature’s Disappearing Act
In this activity, students explore the idea of biodegradability by building and observing a model landfill. This serves as an introduction to the idea of composting. Students learn about the role of engineering in solid waste management.
Stress, Strain and Hooke’s Law
This lesson offers an introduction to Hooke’s Law as well as stress-strain relationships. Students will first learn the governing equations. Then students will work through several example problems first individually, then as a class. In addition, the lesson includes a two-part associated activity. In the first part, students explore Hooke’s law by experimentally determining an unknown spring constant. In the second part, students will apply what they’ve learned to create a strain graph de
"Challenges for the New Administration in Iraq and Afghanistan"
A talk by Juan Cole.
Juan Cole will discuss the future of U.S. foreign policy in Iraq and Afghanistan beyond the November presidential elections. Juan Cole is Richard P. Mitchell Distinguished University Professor of History at the University of Michigan. He has written extensively about Egypt, Iran, Iraq, and South Asia. He studies and writes about contemporary Isl
Lecture 16: Hybridization and Chemical Bonding
Introduction to chemistry, with emphasis on basic principles of atomic and molecular electronic structure, thermodynamics, acid-base and redox equilibria, chemical kinetics, and catalysis. Introduction to the chemistry of biological, inorganic, and organic molecules.
Lecture 11: Covalent Bonds
Introduction to chemistry, with emphasis on basic principles of atomic and molecular electronic structure, thermodynamics, acid-base and redox equilibria, chemical kinetics, and catalysis. Introduction to the chemistry of biological, inorganic, and organic molecules.
Epidemiology and Chemotherapy
A unit containing a series of case studies in which clinical presentations of various infections are described. These include hospital-acquired infections, therapy failures and examples of cross-infection. It also includes an introduction into the use of pcr for identification of microorganisms. This is a Questionmark Perception file. The QTIXML file needs to be opened in QP Authoring Manager, converted to an assessment and exported into your own VLE.
Microorganisms of Medical Importance Part 1 - Viruses
An Articulate presentation giving an introduction to microorganisms of medical importance, concentrating on the viruses and describing their structure, shape and virulence. This is Part 1 of 3 related units. A help file is included and should be read first.
