This course on sustainability will cover the implications of this topic on engineering, design, and architecture. The course will begin with a general survey and discussion of current trends, followed by the introduction of the life cycle assessment (LCA) method as a rigorous, quantitative alternative to current popular sustainability measures for the built environment.

The mission of The Civic Club of Allegheny County has been "to promote by education and organized non-partisan effort a higher public spirit and better social order." This collection contains Civic Club by-laws and constitution; minutes of annual, board of directors, and committee meetings; records documenting The Civic Clubs's legislative campaigns and social services; and voter directories for general and primary elections between 1930 and 1973.
Irwin on the Great Depression and the Gold Standard
Douglas Irwin of Dartmouth College talks with EconTalk host Russ Roberts about the role the gold standard played in the Great Depression. Irwin argues that France systematically accumulated large amounts of gold in the late 1920s and 1930s, imposing massive deflation on the rest of the world. Drawing on a recent paper of his, Irwin argues that France's role in worldwide deflation was greater than that of the United States and played a significant role in the economic contraction that followed.

An introduction and overview of the structure of the U.S. government. A high school senior discovers the makeup of our federal government and how the three branches of government work. This is a very old video and so students might be turned-off by some of the outfits. It is a 15 minute video. Students would benefit from a map of Washington DC. Not much depth in this video.

Introduction to Philosophy II
This course is designed as a "topics-based" introduction to philosophy. What this means is that instead of working through the history of philosophy focusing on great historical figures and their views on different topics, we will focus on great philosophical topics and look at what historical and contemporary writers have said about them. Topics to be addressed will include the existence of God, the relation between the mind and the body, human freedom, and the foundations of morality.
