The children trace their bodies onto large pieces of paper and then use cubes to count and measure how tall they are. One child uses popsicle sticks because they ran out of cubes. The teacher addresses how they should have all used the same standard in measurement. This video could also be used with older students in science for an example of controls and variables in an experiment.

Monster sunspot groups appear on the Sun!
Late in 2009 and early 2010, two very large sunspot groups popped up on the Sun. These two animations shows those groups as seen by the SOHO spacecraft. The first is in visible light, and the second in far ultraviolet which shows magnetic activity associated with the sunspots. Watch as the Sun rotates; you get a cool 3D effect.
