This lesson discusses how each component of a spacecraft is specifically designed so that a rover can land safely in six minutes. Also, students will learn how common, everyday materials and technology, like nylon, polyester and airbags, are used in space-age technology.

Dr. Stephen F. Sener is a professor of surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and chief of surgical oncology at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital. A renowned breast surgeon, he has published more than 80 peer-reviewed journal articles as well as numerous books and book chapters. Dr. Sener has been a volunteer with the American Cancer Society since 1984 and served as national president in 2004-05.

Biomedical engineering undergraduate Erin Keegan is taking advantage of the full spectrum of possibilities offered to engineering students at the University of Rochester. When Keegan, a member of the class of 2013, is not studying or working in the lab, she is embracing her other passion: ballet. She does this through the variety of dance programs, clubs, and classes that the University of Rochester offers.
