Water, Water Everywhere...
This is a good beginning of the year lesson to review fractions, decimals, geometry (the number of degrees in a circle and drawing a circle with a protractor), graphing, and metric measurement. This lesson is a good way for students to meet their peers while working cooperatively in a task-oriented group. The watermelon you will be using for the activity is also a good start-of-the-year treat. Be sure to get an extra watermelon or two to share at the end of the activity.
Fauna and flora in illustrations : natural history of the Edo era
Fauna and Flora in Illustrations : Natural History of the Edo Era is an online exhibition from the National Diet Library of Japan, accessible only in Japanese. The site is divided into four broad sections: an introduction to the materials in the exhibition; the development of natural history publications; the evolution of uniquely Japanese horticulture; and rare birds, strange animals and curious fish. Each section has enlargeable thumbnails of illustrations embedded in explanatory text. The int

This course is an introduction to the great tradition of documentary photography. Students learn to see the world around them in a new way and produce a documentary project. The course requires reading and writing about photography, as well as doing it on a regular basis. The class emphasis is on thinking about why people photograph, what photographs do and do not mean to us, and on doing documentary work, on telling stories with photographs. This is not a technical class, and it should not be c

First, look at a possible journey in more detail to set up a graphical model of the distance-time relationship. To get started, split the journey into three sections: the journey from Paris to the tunnel, the journey through the tunnel, and the journey from the tunnel to London. An initial assumption is that the train travels at a constant, but different, speed over each section. It is a process that needs to become an integral part of your normal approach to work and study throughout your career in higher education and in the world of work. Developing and using the skill of improving your own learning and performance can enhance all other learning. As you worked through this key skill, what is it that you have learned? What can you take away with Introduction In this unit we use the geometric concept of symmetry to introduce some of the basic ideas of group theory, including group tables, and the four properties, or axioms, that define a group. Please note that this unit is presented through a series of PDF documents. This unit is an adapted extract from the Open Unviersity course Pure ma Turning the Major Scales Into Melodies
Activity 4
The following paper presents a reflection on computational design education in Architecture schools. For approaching this subject, the specific case of the Programming for Architecture course taught at Instituto Superior T?cnico - Universty of Lisbon is presented and analyzed through the students' point of view. The aim of the course is to focus on representation methods through programming, introducing the fundamentals of computational approach to architectural design. We will explain and discu
This study is proposes a descriptive model of the design behavior of architects. In the first section a framework for the model is proposed. In the second section the framework is tested against empirical data. 11 information processing mechanisms are observed in the data. Eight of these: information acquisition, problem interpretation, problem representation, solution generation, solution integration, solution evaluation, perception and sketching, are used in developing design solutions. The th

Italians are world renowned as passionate people, and their passion feeds through to their music and story telling. This album explores the tradition of the Cantastorie - the Italian Storyteller. Cantastorie Mauro Geraci explains the intricacies of the music, the paintings, the instruments and the drama of the performance. This material is drawn from The Open University course AA317, Words and music.Author(s):
This paper shows academic tutors take on a multitude of roles in their current positions at university and while teaching is expected, from most, it is often assumed that the tutor will apply appropriate pedagogical tools to convey knowledge to the students. This view is now being challenged as many students are being actively encouraged to voice their views of the teaching and learning experience this paper shows
The Cataloging in Publication (CIP) Program is now accepting e-books from major U.S. publishers to help build the Library of Congress' collections. This is a major step forward in management of e-book collections at the Library of Congress, as the process for ingesting CIP e-books will be used as a model for acquiring e-books from other acquisitions sources. Speakers discuss all elements of the CIP E-Books Program, including the application process, publisher participation, e-book metadata creat

There is an evident need to improve the teaching of sciences. Therefore the ECIT Web page has been designed to assist the teaching of physics, chemistry and biology to secondary students. Considering technology as a mean and not as an end for teaching, the ?ECIT Model? was developed following pedagogic as well as design criteria. Its? implementation requires a specific classroom outline, the use of certain technological tools and an efficient interface, to achieve a working environment (not only
