6.2.3 Security: are my credit card details safe?

Many people now shop regularly on the web. However, many others don't because they fear that an unscrupulous person could obtain their credit card details. They also fear that if they provide their names and addresses to a firm on the web, they will be bombarded with junk mail (or its electronic equivalent, junk email). Some worry that, since anyone can put up a website, the seller may be bogus and no goods will appear after the sale has been completed or won't be as advertised.

Imperial Rome and Ostia
The splendidly evocative ruins of ancient Rome have long been a challenge to historians and archaeologists in reconstructing how it looked and functioned. It became the largest city in the western world during the imperial period, so how was the city constructed, and what were the materials used? How was it defended, supplied with food and water, and how were the people housed and entertained, and above all, how did it function? These video tracks use various famous sites such as the Baths of Ca

2.5 Visual communication

As discussed in Reading 2.4, written text has major limitations in representing relationships between things when they do not follow the linear structure of the text. Relationships can be extremely complex, even circular, as you will see in this block. In particular, the linear sequence of text is not able to clearly show context, elements, structure, processes and functions of Author(s): The Open University

4.2.4 Make clear your perspective

Try to avoid speaking impersonally: 'This is the way it is…', 'It is a fact that…'. That will sound dogmatic and leaves no room for anyone else's perspective. Why not start, 'I think…'? A common abbreviation is IMHO (in my humble opinion) – or even IMNSHO (in my not so humble opinion). If you are presenting someone else's views, say so, perhaps by a quote and acknowledgement.
