With the aim to explore the potential of creating spaces through the Internet, the research is based on Novak.s concepts . .Soundscapes. and .Navigable Music. . for a project that includes the production of a file sharing software (peer to peer) and chat that allows the sonorous and visual representation of the connected users, defining a virtual space, a fluid sonorous landscape, where it.s main constituent substance is the sound. An environment network with participative and collective sound a
A topology construction from line drawings using a uniform plane subdivision technique
The paper describes an algorithm for constructing the topology from a set of line segments or polylines. The problem appears for example at land-maps that have been drawnby general-purpose drawing packages or captured from blue-prints by digitalisation. The solution comprises two steps; in the first step inconsistencies in the input data aredetected and removed, and in the second step the topology is constructed. The algorithm for topology construction consists of two phases: determination of a
Grammar Representations to Facilitate Style Innovation - An Example From Mobile Phone Design
Previous research in generative design has suggested that shape grammar transformations could be used for developing new design styles by the systematic modification of grammars that encode existing styles. Our research explores how such grammar transformations can be facilitated to be responsive to changes in design style requirements. For this it is important to consider the structure and organization of rules, as well as the description of the styles of designs generated by a grammar. Using a
Creating a City Administration System (CAS) using Virtual Reality in an Immersive Collaborative Envi
Current problems in administration of a city are found to be decentralized and noninteractive for an effective city management. This usually will result in inconsistencies of decision-making, inefficient services and slow response to a particular action. City administration often spends more money, time and human resource because of these problems. This research demonstrates our research and development of creating a City Administration System (CAS) to solve the problems stated above. The task o

Student preferences, satisfaction and perceived learning in an online mathematics class
This study analyzes student preference, satisfaction and perceived learning in an online college mathematics course for business majors. Using a combination of active and passive learning objects, the online course was developed to investigate the instructional strategies students use the most, prefer and believe impact their learning. Students answered weekly surveys about the course. They were asked to report their usage of the learning objects and to reflect on their interactions with the

Bayes' Rule: The Theory That Would Not Die
From Microsoft spam filters to DNA decoding and the drones over bin Laden's compound, Bayes' rule pervades modern life. It has been used to help crack the Enigma code, hunt down Russian submarines, and solve a host of other modern day problems. Yet for most of the 20th century, opponents viewed it as subjectivity run amok. In this talk, I will recount some of the triumphs and stories behind Bayes, as it ignited one of science's great controversies.

Race to Save Grace
By the time she is two years old, Grace Rice, of Finksburg, Md., is beating her life expectancy by a year. But nobody knows it.
Not her parents - both physicians - nor her local pediatrician, nor even a community specialist who was monitoring a minor endocrine imbalance.
It’s the last visit with her endocrinologist. While he listens to Grace’s heart and lungs with his stethoscope, he picks up a faint, irregular sound as her heart beats—a heart murmur. A month later, just after Grace’s
