The Cloning of Cells
In this lesson, students continue their education on cells in the human body. They discuss stem cells and how engineers are involved in the research of stem cell behavior. They learn about possible applications of stem cell research and associated technologies, such as fluorescent dyes for tracking the replication of specific cells.
What a Drag! Lesson
Students learn about friction and drag two different forces that convert energy of motion to heat. Both forces can act on a moving object and decrease its velocity. Students learn examples of friction and drag, and suggest ways to reduce the impact of these forces. The equation that governs common frictional forces is introduced, and during a hands-on activity, students experimentally measure a coefficient of friction.
ESD.69 Seminar on Health Care Systems Innovation (MIT)
This seminar applies a systems perspective to understand health care delivery today, its stakeholders and problems as well as opportunities. Students are introduced to the 'systems perspective' that has been used successfully in other industries, and will address the introduction of new processes, technologies and strategies to improve overall health outcomes. Students are assigned to teams to work on a semester‐long group project, in collaboration with staff of a nearby Boston hospital.

Testing the Caverns - Optional
This activity provides a fun, activity-based closure to the Asteroid Impact unit. Students build model caverns using paper mache or clay and bury them in a tray of sand. Next, they test the models by dropping balls onto them to simulate an asteroid hitting the earth. By molding paper mache around a balloon to form a dome, or around a small cardboard box to form a rectangular structure, students will be able to build their caverns.
Engineering Bones
Students extend their knowledge of the skeletal system to biomedical engineering design, specifically the concept of artificial limbs. Students relate the skeleton as a structural system, focusing on the leg as structural necessity. They learn about the design considerations involved in the creation of artificial limbs, including materials and sensors.

Global Climate Change Lesson
Students learn how the greenhouse effect is related to global warming and how global warming impacts our planet, including global climate change. Extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and how we react to these changes are the main points of focus of this lesson.
Loss of sea otters, loss of kelp forests
Events that affect one population typically affect other populations. This phenomenon is demonstrated by the otter-urchin-kelp connection.

RHESSI Observes the Flare over AR9906 - rotate view with times
Zoom in (with rotation) to solar active region AR9906 on April 21, 2002 with SOHO-EIT,TRACE and RHESSI data. RHESSI observes x-rays from this flare. The red contours represent the 12-25 keV photon energy range and the blue contours represent 50-100 keV.

An analysis or style: How can I analyse the figures of speech used in a literary text
At the end of this lesson the student will be able to: distinguish figures of speech in literary text extracts and assess their impact when they are read aloud.

Carnegie celebrates Wilf Paish
A celebratory dinner to honour one of athletics' best known coaches has been held in Leeds.
The celebratory dinner commemorated the life and work of Wilf Paish who passed away at the start of last year. Yorkshire-based Paish was coach of javelin aces Tessa Sanderson and Mick Hill with more than 100 of the athletes who came under his guidance becoming Olympians.
Wilf trained to be a PE teacher at Carnegie College, now part of Leeds Metropolitan University before
