Intrepid balloonists Cecil Shadbolt (left) and 'Captain' William Dale (right) posed in the basket of a gas balloon. Shadbolt's camera can be seen, attached to the side of the basket. On 29th June 1892, Shadbolt and Dale were involved in a tragic balloon accident at Crystal Palace. Dale was killed and Shadbolt died of his injuries soon afterwards. From the Cecil Victor Shadbolt collection of lantern slides dating from 1882-1892. Cash Banned, Freedom Gone Some politicians want to ban cash, arguing that cash is helping criminals. The first steps in that direction are the withdrawal of big denomination notes and the limits imposed on cash payments. Proponents of a ban on cash claim that this will help fight criminal transactions — involved in money laundering, terrorism, and tax evasion. These promises of salvation are used to get the general public to agree to a society without cash. But there is no convincing proof for the claim th Geometric Modeling of Solid Objects by Using a Face Adjacency Graph Representation Representation and Delivery of City Models Digital Photogrammetric Restitution of the Pelourinho?s Fa?ades, in Salvador - Bahia, Brazil [Restit Representation and re-Presentation: Emerging Digital Conventions of Architectural Communication Pedagogic Approach in the Age of Parametric Architecture: Experimental method for teaching architect Reflections on e-Design: The e-Studio Experience Expertise of the Architect MARCO ANTONIO DE LA PARRA COMO NARRADOR Y ENSAYISTA. Contrary to popular belief, innovations don’t sell themselves. Successful adoption depends on how brands position themselves and how much they listen to their customers.

A relational graph structure based on a boundary representation of solid objects is described. In this structure, called Face Adjacency Graph, nodes represent object faces, whereas edges and vertices are encoded into arcs and hyperarcs. Based on the face adjacency graph, the authors define a set of primitive face-oriented Euler operators, and a set of macro operators for face manipulation, which allow a compact definition and an efficient updating of solid objects. The authors briefly describe a
City modelling has a considerable range of potential applications and because of this, as a field of research has attracted a great deal of attention over recent years. Here we reflect on work already reported by the authors in this area, describe some more recent work on improving the system that had been developed and show an example of how city modelling is being applied in practice as a planning tool in the UK.
Brazil has so many historical cities with important architectural heritage. Some of them are remains of the colonial times and aggregate beautiful buildings such as, palaces, public buildings and churches in baroque style, legacy of the Portuguese colonization. Despite of its cultural value, most of these building sets are under several kinds of threats. This paper discusses about the experience on digital photogrammetric restitution of the building fa?ades of Pelourinho, a neighborhood in the
This paper examines the theoretical and conceptual underpinnings of digital architectural representation. Emerging digital tools, processes, and methods are sponsoring new conventions for the communication of architectural ideas and motives. New conventions yielded through digital media offer fresh and currently uncodified ways to communicate. These new conventions attempt to communicate the same ideas as the old, sometimes subverting the imperative for drawing as the representation does not ref
In this era, Architectural Design Practice is faced with a paradigm shift in its conventional approaches towards computational methods. In this regard, it is considered a pedagogic challenge to boost up knowledge and skills of architectural students? towards an advanced approach of architectural design that emphasizes the potentials and complexity of computational environments and parametric tools for design problem solving. For introducing the concept of Parametric Oriented Design Methods to 3r
The influence of digital media and information technology on architectural design education and practice is increasingly evident. The practice and learning of architecture is increasingly aided by and dependant on digital media. Digital technologies not only provide new production methods, but also expand our abilities to create, explore, manipulate and compose space. In contemporary design education, there is a continuous demand to deliver new skills in digital media and to rethink architectura
One of the areas where the expertise of the seasoned architect comes out is in the initial structuring of design problems. During problem structuring the parameters and processes used in design are defined. Experienced architects modify these parameters both in global and local levels as a function of the success of their research process. Experienced architects also rely on 'scenarios' acquired through pervious experiences with similar problems to initialize their problem structures or to redef

For the multimedia design, the main and most recent digital creating software for the graphic treatment of texts and images were analised, then the navigation system and screens were designed, difining backgrounds, texts, audio and video, besides buttons and h
This paper presents research in developing materials with integrated pre-stressed textile and rigid composite properties. Such a material system, termed Pre-stressed Textile-Reinforced Composites (pTRC), produces forms with great degrees of both 3-dimensional and structural differentiation, from flat form-work in combination with a curated composite forming process.
What sort of interfaces will allow, in the future, to manage the evolution of information and knowledge generation? What new scenarios would emerge in contemporary architecture when the access to a multidimensional architectural database is open and it is written and visited by anyone, anywhere in earth? Internet evolution is fast and unpredictable, propelling deep changes at different levels of our society. Spinoffs, unexpected outcomes are result of those changes, unfolding uncertain, unstable
BIM Content Libraries are performing as online sources for building product models. In order to effectively use the product models, it is important to organize them systematically within these databases. But currently there is no standard or guideline for this purpose. Products in these libraries are being categorized based on different criteria such as the object classes in the target platform, by referring to multiple classification systems or based on customized categories. This paper studies
In the industrial world knowledge is developed very fast. As most countries are depending on employees with a high level of knowledge and skills the term ?Life Long Learning? has been formulated and the concept is more and more accepted. Institutions of higher education are more and more involved in creating supplementary education more independent of time and place. Distance learning was originally carried out by ordinary mail, which was slow but might then have been the only solution for peopl
