Private Universe Project in Mathematics: Workshop 5. Building on Useful Ideas
One of the strands of the Rutgers long-term study was to find out how useful ideas spread through a community of learners and evolve over time. Here, the focus is on the teachers role in fostering thoughtful mathematics.,EnglewoodFourth Grade: Towers Fourth-grade teacher Blanche Young attempts the Towers activity for the first time with her students. She feels that their work is valuable, but questions how much time these open-ended activities are taking away from the standard curriculum.
Population: Basic Statistics
This lesson reinforces the idea that Earth's population, including the population of the United States, is growing at a dramatic rate. It discusses some of the basics of demography, the study of population and its changes, and introduces key terms.
Freedom and Agency
Is freedom part of human nature? And how can freedom be both a human power and a human right? Patrick Haggard is a professor at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience and in the Department of Psychology, UCL. Amber Jacobs is a lecturer in the Department of Psychosocial Studies at Birkbeck, University of London. Thomas Pink is a professor of philosophy at King's College London.

Jigs and fixtures : presentation transcript
This is a presentation about Jigs and Fixtures (Design for Manufacturing: Jigs & Fixtures HNC Year 1 in Aircraft Industries Boeing 767-400 Case Study). The use of jigs and fixtures plays a major role in modern production engineering. The basic methods for determining the requirements and configuration of these devices is described . Examples of common practice are also given.

From Ideas to Intellectual Property
This session provides an introduction to the management of intellectual property. This package lays a foundation of ideas, innovation and intellectual property and overlays these concepts to practical approaches to the protection of intangible commodities. The entire family of intellectual property is introduced, a interactive element allows the user to recap the work covered at his or her own speed.
How to extract value from Intellectual Property pt 1 (materials)
This zipped file contains all of the materials that made up the "How to extract value from Intellectual Property pt 1". Inside the file is a narrative, the full PowerPoint slide and cc licence information for all the clip art and materials that have been used. There are audio files that also can be used under the creative commons. The relevant attribution and sources for the materials can be found in the narrative transcript of the lecture.
openSpace
openSpace is University College Falmouth's platform for making teaching materials free to learners all over the world through Creative Commons.
As far as possible, we have developed openSpace to reflect our approaches to teaching on our full time and part time courses. This is your space to explore, experiment, develop and grow...a place where your learning and your knowledge is shaped through your interactions, peer feedback and collaboration with others interested in the same subject. It's
Noise at Work: A case study for use in teaching in Engineering Ethics
This is an Engineering Ethics case study from the IDEA CETL. The scenario examines the issues surrounding health and safety in the workplace in relation to noise pollution. It raises issues such as confidentiality; employer-employee relations; safety and risk. The case study is aimed at students who have been taught some ethics before. The teaching format is a two hour session with small group discussions. By the end of the session students will understand that:

TALAT Lecture 3300: Fundamentals of Metal Forming
This lecture gives a brief review of the fundamental terms and laws governing metal forming at room temperature as well as at high temperatures. This lecture is a necessary prerequisite to understand the more specific treatment of metal forming subjects such as forging, impact extrusion and sheet metal forming in the subsequent TALAT This lectures 3400 to 3800. General background in production engineering, machine tools is assumed.

What Grasses Grow Best with the Least Water?
Which turfgrasses grow and survive best with the least amount of water? That's the focus of a study, designed to save water, being conducted by the UMass Amhers Center for Agriculture. Using its new rainout shelter, UMass researchers are studying drought tolerance that will help with the management of golf, recreational turf and lawn turf.
UMass Students Explore Tropical Rain Forest
Betsy Dumont, a mammal expert in the biology department at UMass Amherst, is one of six faculty who regularly lead students in a tropical field biology course in the Commonwealth Honors College every Spring Break. They study in Costa Rica's lowland coastal rain forest and spend two days of snorkeling on pristine coral reefs off the coast of Panama. The trip gives students a feel for what it is really like to do a field project, from design to data collection through trouble-shooting and on to an
