4.4 Summary This section described how computers can be used in geographical applications (and in doing so it discussed maps and showed how modern maps are composed of layers of different data). It discussed the GPS to demonstrate how computers can communicate in order to solve a problem, such as navigation. It also showed how the geographical data that supports both map-making and the GPS navigation system can be presented in different forms such as a map, a list of directions, a moving grap

3.1 Codes of conduct One of the principles of the European Union Emissions Trading System discussed by Schultz and Williamson (2005) is that an organisation accepts responsibility for the performance of their suppliers. In an age where multinational corporations are able to reduce the production costs of their goods and services by offshoring it to whoever can meet the specification at the lowest cost, what responsibility do they have for the conditions under which production actually occurs? One of the fir

The Coordinate Plane
This video covers the basics of coordinates planes such as: the /y/ and /x/ axes, quadrants, origin, and ordered pairs. This is a good introduction. (03:24)
Coordinate Plane Problems
This video uses populations of the U.S. from 1910-2010 as data to be plotted on a coordinate plane. The presenter shows how make a scale for the /x/ and /y/ axes and how to plot the data on the plane. Cooking Up a Comet
In this activity (page 1-5 of PDF), learners use dry ice and a few household materials to model the chemical composition of a comet. This recipe is fun to make and is a very dramatic way to begin a unit on comets; it is one of the more scientifically accurate demonstrations in astronomy. However, this activity can be messy and exercise caution when using dry ice.
Implementing Mobile and e-learning in Health and Social Care
As part of a submission for the IMS Global Award, this film discusses the outputs of the ALPS CETL and demonstrates the impact that they have had on learning and assessment in practice settings, particularly focussing on the development of competency maps, 360degree multiprofessional asessment tools and the use of mobile technology to deliver these innovative assessment processes to the Health and Social Care students on placement.

Lava Layering
In this activity, learners discover how geologists use stratigraphy, the study of layered rock, to understand the sequence of geological events. Learners use baking soda, vinegar, and different colored play dough to model how "lava" flows. This lesson plan includes background information, play dough recipes, student worksheets, and an optional volcano mapping extension activity.
Flower Powder
In this outdoor activity, learners use artificial bees and paper models of flowers to find out how bees transfer pollen from one flower to another. Background information discusses bees and other pollinators such as hummingbirds and butterflies, and describes the way bees move pollen around. Learners use pollen boards to pick up pollen from real flowers, make paper flowers to learn how real flowers are structured, use model flowers and artificial bees to act out bees visiting flowers for pollen,
