Concept Maps Tools
Concept maps are graphical tools for organizing and representing knowledge. They include concepts, usually enclosed in circles or boxes of some type, and relationships between concepts indicated by a connecting line linking two concepts
Making Sense of Spelling
What can spelling tell us about relationships between words? While spelling may sometimes seem random or unexpected, this lesson illuminates how peeling back the layers of spelling helps us understand the complex history and meaningful structure of words. (04:18)

Speaker(s): Martin Jacques | Martin Jacques renews his assault on conventional thinking about China, above all, the failure to grasp how China is different and how this difference will come to shape the world in a very different way from the Western era. With Western thinking lagging well behind the curve of China’s rise, he explains how the Western financial crisis has dramatically accelerated China’s global impact and influence. Martin Jacques is the author of the global best-seller When C

The course Bio-Inspired Design gives an overview of non-conventional mechanical approaches in nature and shows how this knowledge can lead to more creativity in mechanical design and to better (simpler, smaller, more robust) solutions than with conventional technology. The course discusses a large number of biological organisms with smart constructions, unusual mechanisms or clever sensing and processing methods and presents a number of technical examples and designs of bio-inspired instruments
One of the key aims of ALPS is to improve the assessment of competence in practice across 16 professions, increasing the confidence of new graduates and their employers. The CIPA tool has been developed to establish measures of new graduate confidence in their ability across a number of areas of professional competence. Initially it is being piloted as a self-rating tool with new graduates with the intention of extending its use by employers of new graduates. The tool offers a way of establishin
Twentieth-century audio recordings and motion pictures are important primary source materials for both scholarly analysis and public history, but in many cases essential metadata about them have been lost. Kari Kraus will discuss a new collaborative project at the University of Maryland aimed at recovering the date and time on which a recording was made based on analysis of incidentally captured traces of small variations in the electric power supply at the time of capture.
Speaker Biography:
The talk show reporter Gerri Poveri is reporting that there is a monster in Walker Lake (apparently based on the Loch Ness Monster, as it is also plesiosaur-like). The class is very eager (especially Wanda) to find it. Phoebe also wants to find the monster so she can feed it. However, the bus' automatic sinking button is broken. They will have to find some other way to get it to sink. They succeed by adding weight and "crumpling" the bus. However, at the bottom, they discover that the monster wa
Event Description: The College of Charleston's Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture will host a public history symposium and community event entitled "The Fire Every Time: Reframing Black Power across the Twentieth Century and Beyond" on September 21 and 22, 2012.
The conference considers such topics as policing, incarceration, higher education, Black arts and cultural institutions, politics and policy, the military, self-defense, grass-roots organizing, images and i
Case studies show that significant proportions of design errors and failures are linked to poor requirement specification during both early stages of design and as changes occur. Computational requirements engineering as a front-end to design iterations is a promising area addressing theseproblems. In other design disciplines, such as in software engineering, requirement engineering has given significant product improvements. In this paper, we present a state-space representation of requirement
