Exploring our universe with different senses 

Presented by Jez Turner, Assistant Professor in the Department for Foundation Engineering and Physical Sciences

What if we could smell the solar system, listen to a shooting star, or even feel the vibrations of a Mars-quake?

In this interactive and sensory family talk, Jez Turner will explore how most of our solar system and the universe is not just what we see with visible light.

Through practical demonstrations, Jez will show how we can explore space through smell, touch, and sound including:

  • Making and smelling comets
  • Identifying exploding stars with touch
  • Hearing black holes collide
  • Feeling how a satellite moves
  • See how a snake or other animals see the night sky
  • And many more exciting activities…

Times: The talk will begin at 1pm, with free drop-in themed activities running before and after, between 12-1pm and 2-3pm. 

Tickets: £3 admission, concessions free. Visit the Lakeside Arts Box Office for tickets.

Age range: An inclusive performance suitable for ages 7-11.
